Instead, I for one felt she crushed my hope and dream. She's all I want, and I will see to anything to show her that, I need to fix things between us. Errol stumbles up the creaking stairs and into his motel room, slamming the door behind him with frustration from the fresh heart crushing argument. He kicks off his uncomfortable fancy black shoes from the ball and collapses on the bed. I desperately attempted to forget everything that recently happened, but a nagging ache to set it right with Dolly won't stop pestering me.
Errol jumps to his feet thinking of a way to make it up to her and what he would say. He paces up and down the cold wooden floor with anxiety. What the Water’s Revealed, an essay by Jim Wallis, argues that the silent story of poverty in America was brought to light in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He also covers issues such as the war in Iraq and government spending that came under fire as a result of the storm. These were all issues that were slowly brewing prior to Katrina, but came to a head once people started looking for answers. Jim Wallis follows the classic principals of argumentation in his article. The subject covered in the article, is controversial and shocking for many Americans. He uses ethos, pathos, and logos to develop authority in the article and connect with readers.…

In 1988 Taylor Branch produced a mammoth first volume of a trilogy on the American Civil Rights Movement. Branch hoped to capture the essence of the movement through who he believed to be the epitome of the movement itself— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch’s stated purpose in writing Parting the Waters is quite clear. He says on page xii “My purpose is to write a history of the civil rights movement out of the conviction from which it was made, namely that truth requires a maximum effort to see through the eyes of strangers, foreigners, and enemies. I hope to sustain my thesis that King’s life is the best and most important metaphor for American history in the watershed postwar years.”…

Errol’s plan for Dolly scene represents how closely belonging in Rainbow’s End is linked to the strength of the family and the relationships within the families. Errol thinks to take Dolly away from her family in order to give her a better life. He creates an ironic image of a small flat in the city with a sitting-room and a ‘real-stove’. He says that although there would be no room for visitors to stay, it would be better then what she has now. These material possessions are used in the play to portray that Errol has misinterpreted what a ‘real home’ means. Dolly is horrified at the thought of leaving her rive and her family. To her, a home is not defined by the objects in it, but by the people she loves and spends time with. She rejects his offer, saying in a definite tone that “this is my place. I am staying right here with my mum and my Nan.” Later, when Errol returns, he demonstrates his understanding of her family bond, saying “where you belong, and your family, is important.”…

“I don’t care what you want, Emma. You’ve already taken something import…ant…” She suddenly stopped and left her speech unfinished, froze and quickly shifted her eyes to the floor, then back to me, and back to the floor. She was silent for a few seconds, which felt like minutes, as if she has just said something she has been keeping back for many years now. I started yelling at her and her eyes met mine. All I could see was how hurt she was and how deep inside, she was just like me – allowed to take in an amount of mental damage and pain at a time, before falling apart. She started tearing up like I never seen before and she just fell to the ground. She always acted so tough and this was probably the first time I seen her tear up ever since her husband got involved with a plane…
