This research paper encompasses parts of Chinatown 's culture, history, demographics and landscape. We will attempt to explain some of their beliefs and customs, as well as, link the present Chinese Americans to their past in Communist China. It 's hard to remain objective, particularly while taking this class (COMS540), but in an effort to remain somewhat neutral, we will limit our comments to just slightly closer to being opinionated. We will first cover our visits; when we went and what we saw, move into some not-so-pleasant material concerning practices and communism. Speak on President Sun Yat-Sen. And finish with some proposed construction for the Chinatown area. We found the people to most accommodating and very friendly. We experienced some food, well for Richard (barbecued pork buns) a lot of food, and enjoyed our experience immensely.…

Nowadays, more and more Chinese migrants, who use English as their second language, live and work in America. We can call them “bilingual” since they can speak both English and their mother tongue--Chinese. However, although many Chinese migrants can talk with others with very fluent English, many native speakers sometimes find it is hard to understand what these Chinese people have said. Some Chinese linguists who are in the union CMAU argue that with the age-old culture, Chinese have already formed their own style of expressing things. And this style may not be changed because it reflects their thoughts which have already formed by their unique culture. However, in Amy Tan’s personal essay “Mother Tongue”, the narrator used her own experience to show how her mother’s simple language influence her and changed her attitude to this Chinese-styled English from negative to positive in an unconscious way, and finally formed her identity of language in study and fiction writing.…

Chinese people say: 學習是永遠跟隨主人的寶物 - Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. There is no limit in learning, as it makes the mind and the heart wealthier. At the beginning always comes the learning of a language, which is a road map of a culture. It will tell where people come from and where they will go. My dream and my goal is to keep learning and to lead others up the path of learning. Korean language and culture is indeed a treasury of wisdom, which combines the principles of Asian ancient philosophy with modern perspective on daily life. I would like to draw my attention on the studies of Korean language and culture in order to convey this knowledge to the speakers of other languages, facilitate the globalization of Korean education, aim multi-cultural Korean society, and to be able to design creative and flexible understanding of Korean culture. Since I started studying Chinese, I observed the way in which it spread throughout East Asia influencing written and spoken languages in the countries like Korea, Japan, Vietnam etc. I did more research to discover occasional analogies between these languages, and found out that they occasionally share same root, bear same meaning, and are phonetically related to each other. It thrilled me to know that I can base my further linguistic endeavor on the knowledge of Mandarin, Chinese characters and oriental mindset. I believe this invaluable experience will contribute to my teaching method and help me foster the concept of a multi-cultural society among my students. Although I do not possess a rich academic background in Korean studies, I read the books by Andrei Lankov, a Russian scholar of Asia and a specialist in Korean studies, and came across many different forms of South Korea art and popular culture. The aspects of traditional Korean culture such as folk dance, traditional…
