As the reader sees in the world depicted by Bradbury, the human race was completely wiped out, leaving nothing but a single standing home on a hill. The home which once belonged to a family of four was now surrounded by nothing but the ruins of what used to be. We can only assume that Bradbury was insinuating that this was the end of the world as we knew it. The year was 2026 and this house was very special in many ways.
