“There’s always an ending to whatever began” is what my long time neighbor, [NEIGHBORS NAME]said the last day she lived near us as our neighbor. Although I rarely see her anymore, she was, and most likely, still the same enthusiastic person she was. She has gave knowledge to not only me, but my also my family. Not only has she been an inspiration to me, but due to her amiability, she has been a muse person brainstorming about how she can make a better community. [NAME HERE ] is significant to me because she has taught me morals in my life to appreciate whatever we have, the importance of helping around the community, and to apply as much effort on whatever must be accomplished. [NAME HERE] has always been a peaceful, tranquil, neighbor, yet she has passed down morals to my family. As a senior citizen of 65, she has experienced most things in her life. Because of her age, she most likely will tell the truth about any commodity that must be said. She believes “ the truth can release stress due to lying from the people that

Personal background starts off small, it changes and grows over time into something big, it grows into an identity. Walking down the hallway at school, seeing someone standing alone, my first instinct is to make conversation, compliment, or even just smile at him or her. This instinct came from someone once telling me an act so small could turn a person's entire life around. As a kid, reading encyclopedias about random topics, consumed my time. Many days were spent coming home to find an injured wild animal in my dad's arms waiting to be saved. My dad would sit outside and draw animals, trees, and anything else he saw. Nothing excited me more than trying to draw whatever my dad drew, and as good as he did. Any assignment that was handed to…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

I have left for extended periods for professional or academic ventures in the past but Vanessa and I both are deeply rooted in my parent’s home. Between December of 2008 and July of 2009 Vanessa lost a grandmother, two great grandmothers and a great grandfather. She was blessed with seven years of her life in which she was able to get to know the generation of people that she had come from. In 2005 her father moved in with his elderly mother and grandmother after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer; shortly thereafter my maternal grandfather began to rapidly deteriorate, physically and mentally, at which time he moved in with us. Vanessa gained a great respect for the elderly as well as life experiences and knowledge one can only gain by exposure to older generations; however, these blessings came with lessons in illness and death and the real life challenge of coping with the sadness of end of life deterioration and the loss of loved ones. Vanessa understood that death was the inevitable end to life in the flesh, but she also understood that her loved ones were starting a new life in heaven. Instead of displaying exclusively classic signs of grief that would normally be seen in a child her age under the circumstances, she approached coping with a bitter sweet perspective that…

As a young child, I was always aware of books and the difference between books for children and books for adults. I would not say that I grew up in a family of devout readers, but I did grow up in a family of individuals who appreciated the value of books. Although my parents never seemed to have time to simply sit and read frequently, my mother had engaged with college-level texts in her adulthood, and both of my parents saw the benefit of exposing my sister and me to books at an early age. There was always a bookshelf in my house packed full of textbooks and enormous tomes with dusty, creased spines. We also had a full set of the Encyclopedia Britannica (which I recently found out is going out of print). It would be an exaggeration to say that these books intrigued me because they represented knowledge. However, they intrigued me because although they sat there and collected dust for years, my mother refused to throw them away. It was impressed upon me very early on that books were important, and that throwing them away was wrong. I did not get it completely at that point, especially because those books were incomprehensible to a four or five year old, but I understood that it was something that would be important when I was older.…

Before this assignment was conducted, I barely knew Maria. She was just my next store neighbor who I would talk to every so often. And by conducting this interview I gained a different perspective on life and was privileged to gain a new friendship as well. Maria, who is 67 years old, was very humorous, insightful, and full of life. She went into detail about her past experiences and was open about her regrets and accomplishments in life. She told me things about her children and they seemed very involved with her life. And for her age she is well off and is doing quite well physically and mentally. For some individuals that are not always the case. There are some individuals out there who have no one, or their health is in poor…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…

Growing up in Kokomo, Indiana there wasn’t much to the daily life in my hometown. I’d like to believe this is me telling the story of how through hard work and perseverance I could achieve my goal in high school. A goal that many told me was unachievable and stupid to pursue. What is this goal you wonder? My goal was to play Basketball at Kokomo High School.…

May 19th, 2013 I had dreamt of that day for almost four years. I know I can’t be the only person who feel this way. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. So many different emotions going through my mind all at once. Happiness, Sadness, I felt relieved because it was almost over but at the same time I felt anxious and overly excited to just leave and go far away. 389 seniors were going to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. On a warm sunny day back in 2012, I had just relocated into my new apartment. I decided to host a little carne asada get-together. The music was a little too loud, which the neighbor ended up confronting me about. This caused me to experience some anger due to her ignorance of calling me something that I wasn’t, for pointing our fashion statement resulting in a fight, and ended up with community service. A time in my life that caused me to learn a lesson was the incident with my neighbor, which brought me to the conclusion that we need to be considerate of all neighbors regardless of our personal relationship and beliefs.…

After retaking the LASSI I have noticed a considerable amount of improvement as well as regression. In the beginning of the year, I vowed to myself that I would become a better student. I wanted to maximize all of my abilities in order to be successful. So, after I took my first LASSI and had my talk with Mac, I began to implement new strategies meant to help me accomplish my goal. First I had to deal with my anxiety. In past years I suffered with a lot of anxiety while learning math. I used to love math very much, however, this changed after my 6th grade year. Math became a foreign subject to me. I could no longer make connections and solve problems. As a result, my grades in math began to drop. As a person who is used to getting A’s and B’s on assignments, I had a difficult time in coping with my failure since it didn’t live up to my standards in the subject of math. My difficulty with math eventually caused me to have anxiety. I had carried this anxiety until my sophomore year in high school. It seemed as if no matter how hard I tried to concentrate on math tests my mind would always become blank. Luckily I had an…

Hearing our voices my neighbour, a very pious lady, came to our house with her guards and sons. She helped us to get our relatives reported to the police and thats not it she walked beside my family in every trial concerning this issue. There was an unforgettable experience during this visit. She talked about her family after we finished tidying and she said that she had never seen her children for years as they had immigrated to America. Her tears dropped and it made me felt really miserable. Why didn't her kids visit her? Why didn't her kids give her love? Why didn't her kids take care of her? It is important to us to respect and venerate the aged as they've looked after us since we’re very small, and It seems that the importance of filial piety have been forgotten by the teenage nowadays.…
