Before Windows 95, the majority of the public pirated software, only 10% actually paid for it. A biographical piece done on Bill highlights key details on various stages throughout his life, “In February 1976, Gates wrote an open letter to computer hobbyists, saying that continued distribution and use of software without paying for it would ‘prevent good software from being written.’ The letter was unpopular with computer enthusiasts, but Gates stuck to his beliefs and would use the threat of innovation as a defense when faced with charges of unfair business practices”(biography.com). Basically, the quote is saying that Bill was not content with the stagnation of software development which helped him grow his company and most importantly himself. Bill Gates was never one to hold back the truth and fear criticism because he would exhaust every possibility before throwing in the towel, unlike many of his associates at the time. Gates’s dedication to his work modernized software development and paved the way for software companies today. Windows 95 was ahead of its time in graphic design as well as all the hardware aspects. Nevertheless, critics of Bill Gates will probably argue that he is not a hero because determination alone is not a heroic trait; everyone has it but for some it is never revealed.
