Big Books Should Be Taught In Schools Essay
hool Name: Mcilvaine Mentor Teacher: Ms.C
Date WHAT WE LEARNED IN CLASS WHAT I OBSERVED MY SYNTHESIS
2/10 We learned that the uses of big books are important because they keep children involved. The students are able to see the pictures and they can also see the words.

When the teacher was reading a book It wasn’t a big book so it made it hard for the children to see the pictures and the words. It also made the kids lose focus I saw that a few students were playing with their shoe laces and two girls were playing with each other’s hair. I also heard a students say she couldn’t see the pictures. To keep the children involved and focus I like the big book. It makes

She would try and call on all her students to answers a question but with each student she would guide them towards the right answer by asking them questions to keep them thinking. I think that is a great thing to do because if she just gave them the answer, how are the students going to learn. They are going to rely on her for answers all the time.
2/19 Word walls are important to have in the class because the kids can use them as a reference, and if its word wall word it should be spelled correct. All over the classroom there were words for the students to use. When the students were watching a video it said something in the video about push and pull and Ms. C said “isn’t that one of our science words? All the kids pointed to the science all. I also saw that while the kids were doing their writing assessment they were looking at the walls to see how to spell words. I think words walls are great, but then I also feel like if the child won’t try to sound out a word if he or she knows it’s on the word wall. I do like how she had them broken up above each

I observed Mrs. Ball’s 7th grade science class at Helen Tyson Middle School on Thursday November 5, 2015. The classroom had a great climate and was decorated with interesting scientific educational material. She had the desks set up in organized rows with two kids per table. This set up allowed for less interaction between the kids because they were so spaced out, which seemed to keep them on task. The dynamics in the classroom were great. She connected well with each student and was interested in what they had to say. She was very in control of the class and the students seemed to respond well to her. The students interacted pleasantly with one another and were were all very welcoming. They came into class, sat down, and got right to work.…

During school most kids are not huge fans of learning new things. Especially things that they believe will never come back into their lives. They tend to blow off the classes which are teaching them these things. They see no need for it so they don't really need to pay attention. This happened to me during…

Ms. Russell used level three questioning. For example, she wrote on the white board “1+1=2” and asked her students to form it into a sentence. They had to use prior knowledge to form a complete sentence. She allowed her students to just call out the answers. Since the students just shouted out the answers, I do not think that the rest of the class was given enough time to come up with an answer. Because students were not called on, it was always the same students that kept participating. Ms. Russell praised the students answers and even gave…

Her job allows for this to be possible. Because she works with a smaller number of students at a time and as a whole, she is able to get to know them on a much high level. Furthermore, that is her job. Yes, on the one hand every teacher has a job to get to know their students as learners. However, on the other hand, there…

There is a desk and chairs for children who wish to sit and read there and this area is also used for one to one reading sessions. There is also a soft seating area with pillows and cuddly toys so that children can relax while enjoying their book. There are a variety of books for the children of all abilities and cultures to enjoy. The book corner helps to promote children’s language development and fine motor skills development. It also supports their social and emotional development as they sit with friends sharing stories and at times playing ‘being the teacher’ where they pretend to be the teacher reading the story to the children using facial expressions and changing the tone of their…

As my first grade teacher rolls the giant TV station into my class, a majority of my fellow classmates let out an over exaggerated sigh. The lights shut and the screen flicks on, filling the room with the outdated theme song to Reading Rainbow, beginning the reading lesson for the day. From despising Reading Rainbow and getting my first Junie B. Jones book to reading The Catcher in the Rye and Fahrenheit 451, my love for reading has grown to the point of wanting to own a library that one would see on pinterest when looking for cute bookshelf ideas.…

Ms. Brown managed her class very well as the students knew what to do when they walked into the room. There was minimal redirection by her, the students knew what to do at the appropriate times, and were on task with the given assignments. Some students participated more verbally, but all of them were working on the assignment. When problems arose during the lesson, she redirected them verbally and nonverbally.…

When I first walked in, the students were busy playing at the play station. I observed them playing at their play station. There were a variety of stuffed animals, trains, and puzzles there for them to play with. The students were very quiet and did not respond back to me when I talked to them. After they played for a bit, they went over to the table where they had their sing along. The sing along occurs every day, and helps the students get used to working in a group as well as using their voices to sing. Mrs. McCotter goes to each student and sings to them and tickles them. The students seem to enjoy the attention they received.…
