Big Bad Wolf In Shrek And Little Red Riding Hood
Have you ever heard of the ‘Big Bad Wolf’ being the good guy? Most people haven’t. In this essay, you’ll learn that he is. Just because he has the word ‘bad’ in his name, doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. In the story ‘Shrek’ he is funny and has lots of friends, in the Three Little Pigs, he hadn’t eaten in days, and in Little Red Riding Hood, he was just looking for a good laugh and a snack. The Big Bad Wolf in the story is actually the hero and this will be proven by looking just a little bit deeper.

First, in Little Red Riding Hood, it was like Little Red was trying to get eaten. Her Mother said specifically not to dawdle or go off the path because something bad would happen, but she does it anyways. in the story it says ‘And whenever she had picked one (flower), she fancied that she saw a still prettier one farther on, and ran after it, and so got deeper and deeper into the wood.’ If she wasn’t so naive she would have known when to stop. Then after, when she encounters the wolf at her grandmother’s, she makes fun of his appearance. She calls him out on his big ears, big eyes, big hands etc. Most people get mad or sad when you make fun of them so no wonder he wanted to eat her. The wolf was just trying to eat, no one knows when his last meal

He’s sassy but in a nice way. He is friends with all the creatures in Shrek’s swamp because they’ve all been kicked out of the kingdom, therefore having something in common. He isn’t a bad guy, because when Shrek is away in Far Far Away, he looks after the swamp for him. He and the other creatures make sure the swamp doesn’t get wrecked while he’s away, which makes him seem like an averagely nice person. While all the creatures are hanging out together, he doesn’t have the urge to eat the Three Little Pigs. He’s not hungry enough, and even if he was (Which happens at one point) He is able to control himself. He doesn’t want to kill people. He just doesn’t want to die

In comparing The Grimm Brother’s “Little Red Cap” and Sharon Singer’s paintings of the infamous little red riding hood story, there are numerous similarities to be found. Singer’s painting “Fast Food”, depicts a dark and uncanny scene in which naked doll lies at the foot of bloody wolf paws. The naked doll in Singer’s bleak painting represents the vulnerability of Little Red Cap during her encounters with the wolf. Little Red Cap description as a “dear little girl” who was loved by anyone who “set eyes on her” works into Little Red Cap’s childish aurora connected by Singer’s naked doll (Tatar 13). The Grimm Brothers explain Little Red Cap “had no idea what a wicked beast [the wolf] was” during their first meeting, which characterizes Little Red Cap as a helpless and harmless young girl, with no knowledge of the dangers of society, such as a child (Tatar 14). Therefore, assessing Little Red Cap defenseless and innocent nature, there is a connection portrayed through the unclothed doll that lies at the foot of the wolf. In the painting from Singer, the wolf’s bloody paws are also seen under a red cloth, which can be concluded as two things from the story. One, the red cloth is Little Red Cap’s…

Angela Carter’s, “The Company of Wolves” is a short story that is broken into two distinct sections that leads the reader to wonder the reasoning behind this. One option, that could be argued, is that it served the purpose of setting up background to a story within a story. The opening immediately begins by conveying the image of wolves with several anecdotes describing some of the tendencies of wolves and how they live. After the description of wolves, the beginning section serves to describe a slight view of people’s lifestyles and the magic or enchanted features of werewolves through a story about a woman and her two husbands; the second section then tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood but in a completely different way. This version incorporates a different style that includes innocence and sexuality through the girl and the wolf-like man. The young girl is an “unbroken egg” but strays from the innocence of a young woman at the time and uses her sexuality to save herself from the savage wolf (Carter 1088). All this leading me to ask: why did she split her story into two different sections? Also why did she portray her version of Little Red Riding Hood like she did?…

From art posters to art in literature, we don't always show the wolf's good side. When the wolf is portrayed as something evil, all we see are big, yellow, glow-in-the-dark eyes that seem to be hypnotic if we look at them long enough and a snarling mouth baring these long, ferocious fangs. The wolf's fangs can be quite intimidating for they can reach two and a quarter inches in length; they are strong, sharp, and slightly curved. We not only see the wolf, we hear the wolf also. A wolf howling at the moon is often locked into our imaginations. A wolf howls and most people listen with fear, some even grab their guns. This is what we call "Fear of the Unknown". If the weather conditions are right, a wolf's howl can be heard up to ten miles away, and can last from one half a second to about eleven seconds. An ancient misconception of the wolf's howl is that, although the howling wolves were far away, people firmly believed the wolves were howling at their particular door. This is where the popular phrase, "Let's keep the wolf from the door," came about.…

The symbolism of the wolf, the forest, and Little Red form examples of the capitalist and proletarians of society. These two divisions of this society are the “haves” (bourgeoisie) and the “have not” (proletariat). In the story of Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf symbolizes the proletariat. The wolf has no food, home, or family to help him; this forces him to be deceptive. He convinces Little Red to stray from the path, knowing it would take longer for her to get to her grandmothers, and this way he could get there first. The wolf’s hunger for power led him to eat the grandmother and Little Red. Shortly after, he lost all his power to the huntsman, when the Huntsmen cut grandmother and Little Red from wolf’s stomach (Eisen). The forest symbolizes the unknown and the dangers of society. In the idea of Marxism there is a belief that everyone should obey what society says and that the capitalist have all the power over citizens. In Little Red Riding Hood Red follows a path until she meets the wolf, where she then wonders from the path into the forest (Eisen). The situation then became dangerous and Little Red was eaten by the wolf. Little Red did not listen to her mother, whom represents the society in control, and went into the dangerous part of…

Misconceptions about the wolf is common, many believe that the nature of a wolf is a bloodthirsty beast, roaming the wilderness. Movies sometimes even portrays the wolf as evil and as an enemy to humans, which has left people in discontent and unnecessary fear towards the wolf, likely this originates from old folklore. The simple truth is that wolf are not evil creatures. In fact, the wolf is actually more afraid of humans than we are of them, and usually stays away from the human…
