While working for the Columbus Foundation Fellowship, my goal is to absorb as much knowledge as possible. I am confident I will learn how to interact with external stakeholders, donars and all individuals in regards to showing how their nonprofit is making an impact. This will teach me how to take an organization’s message and not only spread it among citizens, but instill a sense of urgency for their issues. I am also confident I will learn how to accept and internalize any professional feedback given to me. My passion lies with advocating for those voiceless citizens attempting to better themselves through education. I hope to one-day advocate for low-income students because they do not always received equal opportunities as others in education.…

    Peace Corps

“If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich,” said President John F. Kennedy during his inaugural speech on January 20, 1961 (Weitsman15). Unlike presidents before him, Kennedy had a desire to reform the American attitude of ignorance and apathy towards the world, leading him to challenge a “new generation of Americans” to join “a grand and global alliance” (Weitsman 15). This “global alliance” was intended to combat tyranny, poverty, disease, and war and later became an organization now known as The Peace Corps (Weitsman15). First established in March 1961, The Peace Corps became exactly what Kennedy had envisioned: an organization that would send American volunteers to work with citizens of Third World countries to help their societies prosper and succeed. Furthermore, it would promote world peace by creating international friendships and awareness (Weitsman16). However, what Kennedy did not envision was a generation who, despite its altruistic ideals, was fearful of joining the organization because of health and safety concerns. Nevertheless, this mindset was and continues to be what prevents many young college graduates from participating in such a life-changing experience. Concerns for self-protection often prevent potential volunteers from joining the Peace Corps, but the education and preparation that the Peace Corps provides makes the organization much safer than most people imagine.…

It has always been my dream to have a substantial positive impact on the world that I live in. Since as far back as I can remember the desire to help others has dominated not only my thought process, but also my actions. I believe that this desire is what has led me to pursue the social work field. The job of a social worker is complicated and very wide-reaching, but I believe the ultimate job description of a successful social worker can be summed up with one word; help. The ultimate goal of the social worker is to positively affect the lives of their individual clients and ultimately the society in which they live. I have learned that social workers operate at three levels which ultimately allows them to successfully promote the change that they desire. These levels are: Micro social work, which involves working with individuals; mezzo social work, which involves working with families or other small groups; and macro social work which involves working with agencies. (Gillies, Ester.). When I first began this course, I was only cognizant of social work at the micro level. Through the readings and videos that I have had the opportunity to review, I am now aware that it is impossible to be an effective social worker without incorporating all three facets of the social work profession. My initial vision of being in an office working independently with a singular client has been forever changed. I am now aware of the immense responsibility social workers have to not only affect the individuals and families that walk through their doors, but also the impact they must have on the community and society that these individuals and families interact with daily, in order to accomplish real change.…

There are many interesting jobs that involve different skills, passions, and drive. So commonly many imviduals seek a career that pays well, and is tolerable. It is becoming a rare thing to see people puring their dream at any cost necessary. Whats my passion? What do I desire to do with my life no matter how much money I get on my pay check, or how many hours are going to be spent working? I have a dream to one day become a youth pastor, and run my own youth group. I know it is something I want to do full time and I want to have a place where teens can get away from everything, and find who they want to be. To share the word of God while doing so. This career may not offer a multimillion dollar salary, with the perks of a luxurious job. But in my eyes it pays way more than money ever could. Before making this realality there are many tasks that has to be done. First, going to school to become a youth pastor. There are many incredible school that offer great theology programs. For example North central university. You can get a degree in theology and youth pastoring which other Christian universities do not offer. The level of degree you study for increases your payroll as for other careers of course. After high school when you have your college set out, you do your four years follow by that you do need to do an internship at church. For…

“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” This quote by Oliver Wendall Holmes can be applied to numerous situations in our lives. Throughout my whole life, I rarely ever did community service. Though I went to nursing homes and sang carols during Christmas, I really never considered it to be true volunteer work. I was usually too busy to have any spare time to volunteer and when I did have spare time, volunteer work was never the first thing on my mind. Volunteering last Wednesday, however, did stretch my mind. Because this was my first instance of true volunteer work, everything about it was a new experience. I chose to volunteer to work the table at the blood drive at the Recreational Center because I’ve donated blood before and feel that it is very helpful and necessary to the process of saving lives. Working “behind the scenes” of the blood drive was different though. By sitting there and helping out the donors and handing out snacks afterwards, I got to see the donor community in a different way. Not only that, but a lot of times, I found it to be my responsibility to assure donors that the process was quite easy and painless. Many people came in looking unsure about whether or not they would really donate and these were the people I spent the most time talking to. My “old dimensions” were the thoughts that blood drives just easily happened; people showed up, they donated and that was all that was to it. Volunteering at the blood drive helped me better understand that things like this wouldn’t be possible if there weren’t people to volunteer at them and help everything run smoothly. By my mind being stretched by this experience, I’ve learned that even only helping out for a few hours can go a long way. I feel so much differently about volunteer work now; instead of it being a burden that I’ve been “sentenced to”, it is actually an easy way to give back to the community. On the day of the blood drive, I collected…

    Community Partnership

The first factor that we have developed to be a foundation for our program and a steppingstone to other effective development and programs to help ensure our success in community oriented policing service is community partnerships. Community partnerships are the relationships among different law enforcement agencies to work together to better serve and protect the community and to value the trust of the people in what we are about (www.cops.usdoj.gov). Moreover, the relationships are not only developed among different government agencies, but with the community as well, such as: community member, nonprofit organization, private business, and the media. Our goal in community partnership is to work as a team. By working together with the community, a strong relationship and trust is built between the government and the people, making it easier to communicate with each other. Once when effective communications is established, working together as a team is accessible. Different agencies have their own tasks and the community has their own duties to be more effective in different areas, nevertheless, we all collaborate by sharing information and helping each other to make sure the best result is accomplished…
