Each year in November I volunteer at The Basket Brigade. We assemble boxes full of food for the less fortunate to have for Thanksgiving/the holiday season. After assembling the boxes we each take 4-5 and deliver them to anyone who has requested them. This opportunity is very eye opening, it shows you how much a little kindness goes and how thankful people are that you care. I have also volunteered at Feed My Starving Children for the last few years. This organization allows you to help pack food to send to children across the…

The results of my hard work and the positive impact it creates on the people around me is a reward in itself. One of the most memorable instances in which I contributed to the greater good was during the summer of my freshman year where I volunteered at West Pines Community Church. I remember when we hosted the Make a difference day event for Thurgood Marshall. It was a busy day for all of us. It was also a big event. There were a lot of vacant houses in that area. Our job was to make a list of the vacant houses and to measure it for board-ups. Measuring it took about a week. Lighting observation was a challenge for some of us because we had to wait till dark to find out which light works so that we can write down the address. Some people didn’t like how we were going around the same area multiple times because they didn’t know what we were trying to do. After that some of us had to drive around morning and afternoon to find out the most common routes that everyone takes to go and from school. I couldn’t participate in that because I had school the same time. On the big event day, we secured 10 vacant properties, cleared three blocks of trash, removed a block of graffiti from a vacant property, and created visible safe routes signs. We hit some rough patches on the way but we all worked together to overcome it. It was a very long and exhausting day but we all were happy because we all felt the joy of making a difference in the…

I have the experience of volunteering for two times. Both schools that I went to are very poor school as most of students come from neighbor countries such as Myanmar and Cambodia, whom their parents immigrate illegally to Thailand for working opportunity. Also the school director tries to help this children by give them opportunity to study without tuitions fee, which is make financial support from the government is not enough. Therefore, my friends and I went to give the necessary stuffs such as sport facilities and some amount of money that my friends and I did the donation from kind-hearted people. We also educated them in various topics such as teach them English daily use sentences and basic economics in term of how to saving. The reason that I choose to teach them how to saving is I found that their family financial status is not good, so it is necessary for them to use money correctly and make sure that they will not overspending.…

When I started out I really wanted to volunteer at the local school but unfortunately that did not plan out. I always think that everything happens for a reason and working a feed my starving children really made me feel like i was making a difference even when I was doing the small jobs. Feed my starving children is a nonprofit faith based organization that is devoted to feeding the hungry in different countries all around the world. Over the stations they have the names of the places that the food goes to. I did two 5 hour shifts just because it was something I actually had fun with and felt like I could keep going. Something I found really interesting when talking to the workers there was that when they drop the food off they have to be…

Last year, I went to Pinetree Preschool, where there is nothing but young children. That was an experience I enjoyed and found so valuable and opened my eyes to the potential and possibilities of children. This year, I chose the complete opposite of Pinetree and I volunteered at Primrose, a retirement home for people who suffer from alzheimer's or dementia. At Primrose, I saw a completely different side of human life. That may seem like an exaggeration but I tend not to spend much time with people much, much older than me, as they were at Primrose. I learned an incredible amount of patience and understanding and just life in general during my time volunteering at Primrose, that I could not had received anywhere else.…

While at the Amarillo SPCA, I volunteered on two different days. On the first day, I thought that I was going to be helping nurture the six animals, but instead I was in charge of taking out the little puppies while the other volunteers were cleaning out cages and changing the paper inside. I took them out to one of the five exercise yards and let them play around without leashes. On the second day of volunteering, I showed up and signed in. The man at the front desk asked if there was any way that I could help out by cutting paper for the puppy kennels. They were running low and needed help cutting as much as they could. Another volunteer and I cut paper for two and a half hours, and then helped the full time employee clean out kennels. I also did these tasks for the older dogs.…

The senior project I chose to do, was to compete in the John Muir Woods Marathon. I decided to run this marathon because running has always been a passion of mine, and I wanted to take it to the next level and compete in an official marathon. In training for the marathon, I learned self discipline, endurance, and how to have stamina. I also learned, that a marathon (26.2 miles) is a lot longer than it actually seems! I was able to raise a total of $336.20 towards the Danny Zabicki Foundation.…
