Being a Smart Shopper Is a Skill
Being A Smart Shopper Is A Skill

The most important thing to me when shopping is not the things I buy, but what I get for my money. There are many things to keep in mind as I shop. I have to think of the things I need, if I’m shopping wisely and not get caught up in all of the TV ads and if I am within my budget. But with a little focus and discipline, I know I can do it. After all, I come from a long line of generations before me that have done just that. Most importantly, are the things I need. There are my food, bath products, clothes and school supplies. I have to have these to get through my week every day. Obviously, I have to eat and have clothes for my overall health. My bath products are for maintaining good hygiene, which helps with my health and my self esteem. And last, my school supplies for a good education. So many times I have to stay focused on what is on my list and not get caught up in all of the TV ads. There are so many out there, even on radio and in the store, that my emotions can run away with me and direct me exactly where the advertiser wanted me to go; right to their products. It’s so exciting to see new and fun things that come out in the stores, that it’s easy to forget what I came for in the first place. So I have to be smart and remind myself I can always look at it another time. That’s when I take a deep breath, walk away and go back to my list. As always, I must remember to stay within my budget. Even though it’s not always easy, it is possible. There are so many dollars I can spend and not a cent more. So, with that in mind, I look for my items at the lowest possible price. There are some things I have to spend more money on because I know that the quality is where the value is. Unfortunately, I learned that lesson the hard way. It is just a matter of putting the important things first and sometimes there is a little left over for a nice surprise or to save for that special

I am a very detailed, neat and organized individual. I believe in planned shopping. I never go shopping without a list. This helps me budget, and remember what items to get. Additionally, I like both consignment and high-end stores, so I never seclude myself to a select number of stores or brand. Therefore, I don’t particularly advocate brands, because I find favor in all brands! From Samsung, to Nike, to Wal-Mart’s Great Value, I like and own a piece of everything. I can shop almost anywhere and find something…

In Graaf's short information section about this issue, he speaks about the problems dealing with shopping, Graaf says "they're buying far too much stuff and for all the wrong reasons"(71). He sees a growing trend within shoppers. This trend being that of buying and not really liking it. Basically, people are just trying to impress the people around them. Someday this habit will catch up to that person when they least expect it; all because they were just trying to impress another person or trying…

Having a mom that constantly drags me to the grocery store with her at least four times a week for "bonding time" has allowed me to observe the different types of shoppers at my local grocery store. Usually, I end up buying Starbucks inside and sit observing the different ways people behave while shopping. It is quite interesting watching the way people walk down the isles and how they portray themselves. My observations have allowed me to distinguish three different types of shoppers that definitely caught my eye: the bargain shopper, impulse shopper, and the multitasker.…

I was impressed by the video “the story of stuff”, (creative commons, 2013) Annie Leonard pointed out that people today are living under many different kinds of propaganda, and encouraged to buy many things no matter that stuff is needed or not. Therefore, consumerism was formed. Actually, people in Hong Kong also have the same phenomenon especially for online shopping. In recent 3-5 years, TaoBao (Taobao.com, 2015) which is a new and popular online shopping platform among Hong Kong people, the items shown on the web are with a very attractive price, some clothes can be bought by just 10 to 15 Renminbi (RMB), even add on the procurement cost is only cost about 20 Hong Kong Dollar (HKD). Honestly, I am also one of the frequent shoppers. Nevertheless, after watching this video, I would think clearly before I make up a decision to buy new clothes or accessories ever after since I do not want to burden our lovely and only planet so seriously anymore.…

Basically, any conclusive evidence that mentality or pace of life is responsible for the lifespan was never produced to me thus leaving me on the position that there is no any direct coherence. However my belief is that modern man has no control whatsoever over his pace of life in general. If the living model of other species is controlled by instinct and nature, then the one of human being is under the influence of social prescriptions rather than natural inclination, so the imposed ideals rule the pace, aim and course of life. While the Nietzsche’s dead God is in the past, modern life is patterned after “chasing dead gods” model, for most of it passes in doing what you don’t need, to get what you don’t like. The social standards become a vicious circle at the stage, which makes me ”think of the sledge-dogs in London's books, who slave until the last breath and die on the track”. So the society is somehow developing into implicit Auschwitz, where you have to adjust (or rather annihilate) yourself to fit in i.e. become Kapo, corrupt or lucky. Strength is on the side of machine-like “things-to-do-list” performers, whose body and mind are strictly disciplined and devoted to the goal achievement. Others are left out, condemned to extinction. And that is not bad, just…the truth of life. “It’s not the world is vicious, it is something congenitally defective in me.” So the truth is somewhere between Rousseau and Hobbes, “natural goodness” and “bellum omnium contra omnes”.…

This is a favourite topic especially for women. Most of them enjoy shopping , very often buying things which even don’t need. A woman goes to the supermarket to buy bread , butter and milk but her attention is attracted by many nice things such as new type of detergent, chocolate biscuits, cereals for loosing weight or new type of cheese. In half an hour she is approaching the cash desk with a full trolley and spending here all her cash. This is something what most of men can’t understand it. But for women is very hard to resist temptation among thousands of bargains and sales.…
