The most single important piece of knowledge I have gained in English class this year was the fact that if you work hard enough and put effort into your work, in the end, it will result in good things further ahead in the future. My level of effort on my assignment this year so far has been not so great than what I wanted it to be. I can say that it’s due to the fact that I am partially lazy and I may not find the topic so interesting but either way, one has to do the work and you might as well enjoy it. I didn’t actually do my best quality work. I who have like to try, but sadly I did not. My best moments I have had in class was when we all read “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and when we watched the movie version of the…
One of the decisions I made that helped me succeed in my APDC English class was to work harder than my classmates, because success belongs only to those who are willing to work harder than anyone else To illustrate, my first assignment was a columnist project that I have to annotate and soapstone an article, and write a rhetorical précis and a critical response paragraph. I was worried about the grammar and punctuation of my project since English is my second language. In addition, I started my project two weeks before the due date to make sure I had the enough amount of time to fix any grammar error and to make an exemplary project. When I got back my project, I felt very proud of myself because I got a higher grade than many of my classmates…
The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…
The semester started off the same as most. I go into it telling myself that I will stay caught up this time. I won’t allow myself to do assignments at the last minute. As usual these promises are quickly broken. I work eight to twelve hours a day and six days a week most weeks, so often when I get home, the last thing I want to do is homework. This means putting everything for most of my classes off till Sunday. A habit I have sadly been in for the better part of my time at Gateway.…
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…
Why I was late for PT on Monday is that I did not wake up when my alarm on my phone went off. This may have been because I got very little sleep last weekend, and I also went through a bad break up, but that is still no excuse. I should have found a way to wake up and been to PT on time Monday. How I plan on fixing myself is that I plan on buying an actual alarm clock and using that. I plan to set it on the other side of the room, so that when it goes off, I actually have to get up to turn it off. There fore resulting in me having already gotten out of bed and not going to fall back asleep. Currently how I have it fixed though I that I have multiple alarms set up on my phone so that in case I do fall back asleep I will be woken up by another alarm. I also have to call Corporal Flores at 0500 to tell him that I am awake, at 0520 I have to call Corporal Jabalde to let him know that I am awake. then again at 0530 I have to call Corporal Flores telling him that I have a ride. I have to call Corporal Flores for a week straight(excluding weekends). Along with that if I do not call him one time, further actions will be taken to ensure that I am awake and ready for PT on time.…
There were times when my schoolwork got very hard. With playing soccer, taking care of my family, and balancing school together, it would’ve been easy to just give up, but being the diligent student that I am, I stuck it out. I tried my best, and even if the grade on those papers weren’t the best, I did my best on the following papers to make up for it. Hard work does pay off. I get extremely connected to the things I’m a part of. For example, when I play soccer, I forget about everything that happened during school or the day before and I just focus on the game.…
My heart was pounding on the car ride home, I knew that I did poorly this school year and neither of my parents were going to tolerate my grades. “You’ve disappointed me this school year, son. You’ve had all school year do get your grades up and you didn’t. We had this same talk last semester and now we’re having it again. You need to try harder in school because I want you to do better than me when I was your age, I don’t want you falling down the same path that I did. There’s a saying that people say that goes “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed.” If you don’t ask for help and try to do everything on your own then you’ll never make it in life, everyone needs a little help.” This is what my father told me on the last day of school freshmen year.…
Ever since I was a little girl I have been persistent in keeping up my grades. To the ordinary person, elementary school was a breeze and no big deal. While I didn’t find elementary school difficult, I was still incredibly meticulous about making sure that all my work was done well and turned in on time. Even in the third grade, missing school did not feel like an option to me. I remember that when my parents discovered that I had contracted head lice they informed me I would have to miss school while we treated it. Upon receiving this news, I sobbed. I wasn’t upset that I had head lice, I was upset that I would be missing important information while I was home taking care of the problem.…
5. Were any of the absent students at any school social events or competitions together?…
As I read this article, it actually made me laugh because some of the excuses I have used myself. Although it is bad to turn in an assignment late, it is not bad to make an excuse to make up for it. After all, it’s all for our sake. If the instructor let us go with it, then we’re good. But that doesn’t mean we can do it again. In this kind of situations, first is alright, but never expect a second time because any instructors would definitely doubt a second time. This article is an irony because it shows how the excuses made the teachers believe to not believe the students as time…
On the other hand, Angela L. Duckworth, a professor at the Positive Psychology Center, University of Pennsylvania, explained that "Underachievement among American youth is often blamed on inadequate teachers, boring textbooks, and large class sizes. We suggest another reason for students falling short of their intellectual potential: their failure to exercise self-discipline”…
Being late is unacceptable in any working environment. Every person is late at least a few times in his/her lifetime. Some people can be late occassionally due to circumtances beyond their control.…
According, Diana DeLonzor, a writer, classify types of late people. The deadliner, the producer, the absent minded professor, the rationalizer, the indulger, the evader and the rebel.…
“Don’t give up; don’t ever give up,”, are the words of the great college basketball coach Jimmy V. He said this in his speech during the ESPY awards just a few years before he died of cancer. This quote was, and still is, very inspirational to me. From that day on, I used the quote as inspiration to do my best in everything I do. It helped me become a better student once I heard it. Before that I would not complete my work, and I just didn’t care about the grades I was getting. However, after that, it changed me into a different student. This short quote can change a person’s life if he just take it to heart. If a person wants to become a good student I would suggest that he listen to this whole speech. The words in the speech can help a person become a better person in life, but more importantly, it can make the younger people become better students. To enable oneself to become this good student, one must also be responsible, have a good attitude and participate.…
