Being Considered a Misfit
The story that is going to be argued in this essay is “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, by Flannery O’Connor. Someone can know a person their whole life but yet never truly know what they are capable of doing. The “misfit” in the story could be a good guy but had something terrible happen to him that made him start wanting to kill people. We would say a misfit is someone that is different from others but we are all different in our own way. Does this mean that all of us are misfits? To some peoples perspectives being a Misfit can be considered a positive or negative thing. Nobody can be a true misfit because everyone has different things about them. A misfit is someone that is “poorly adapted to a situation or environment” (Merriam-Webster). According to the definition of what a misfit is; anyone that is unfamiliar with a place, would be considered a “misfit.” Someone can be considered a misfit by their different religious beliefs, the music they listen to or even their romance preference. If someone has a group of friends that are all Catholic but they are not, they would be considered a Misfit. A baby that is just born is a misfit to this world because it is unfamiliar being outside of his or her mother’s stomach. There are several reasons on why one person can be considered a misfit. If a person has one thing different from another they would both be considered misfits. It mostly comes down to whether how someone considers what a misfit is and what the person has done to be considered a misfit. The way a lot of people would consider a misfit as being a positive thing unless they are considered a misfit by doing something like the character in the story. According to Blue Skye that wrote an article on “The Positives of Being a “Misfit”, states, “Those who have an limited amount of a social life can focus a lot on themselves and the world.
