Since Challenger K8 has 9 grade levels, we need to specialize the plan of actions for that particular grade level population and use variety of methods. PBIS is a school-wide behavioral system that identifies needs for tier II, or III services. “When prevention systems are already in place for all students, it becomes easy to identify those who are at risk for academic difficulties” (Blanksein, p. 133, 2013). Challenger has a school-wide tier I system of CHOMP behavior- CHOMP is acronym for C-courteous, H-honest, O-on time, M-mindful, P-positive. With the CHOMP expectations laid out, teachers can identify students who may need more support academically and behaviorally. SWAMP time, Peer Mentoring and some of the Guidance meetings are considered…

Many special needs classes have found that implementing positive reinforcement in inclusive education has shown remarkable results. When people are genuinely positive, they have better outlooks and results in all parts of life, including education and friends. “Despite limited attention from researchers and practitioners, SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behavior Supports) has potential to positively affect inclusive school reform and outcomes for students with severe disabilities.”(Enyart). Positive reinforcement has a direct correlation to the behavior of children. When a child is put into inclusion they learn how to act around others they don’t know as well, they learn how to control themselves better, and become aware of the classroom setting.…

The results are showing that the chosen interventions focusing on identified student behaviors can be used to assist learners in avoiding unintentional or intentional unwanted behaviors in the classroom. This is being accomplished by adopting more positive roles in their academic environment. The intervention is leading to substantial progresses in each of the outlines of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program. Direct evaluative feedback was given and deemed positive, with 92% of learners communicating that they thought the PBIS method assisted them to evade unwanted behavior in the classroom, and 74% communicating they felt it assisted them in increasing their self-esteem. It could be claimed that the final student…

Fruit intake implies both quantity and quality, simple meaning that I have intended to eat more fruit but also of different kinds. The rationale behind it is to be more flexible in future terms after the program has ended, thus decreasing monotony and increasing the probability to eat fruit. I decided to choose such behavior modification mainly for health reasons. I mainly needed to decrease sugar intake and thus replacing glucose and other sugars that might rot the teeth and cause other major problems later in life such as diseases like Diabetes, with fructose. Formally stating my competing behaviors as being sugars and other unhealthy food that will potentially interfere with the program because I have noted that I tend to pursue a all- or- nothing response. This means that I either start my day feeling the urge to eat healthy or else head into a masochistic approach and torture my body with sugars and fats that have been reinforced with stressing periods throughout the years. So that is why in my diet I have emphasized breakfasts and have included it in my behavior modification…

I chose to modify my sleeping behavior for my behavior modification project. Sleep is something that I have always had a problem with. In high school I would get an average of about 5 hours of sleep a night, and now as a junior in college I get about 5-6 hours a night. I wanted to modify this behavior because I feel that not getting enough sleep is negatively affecting my mood, health, and overall outlook on my every day experience. It would be beneficial to me to be more awake and happy throughout my days rather than be tired and pushing myself to stay awake. My main issue with my sleeping behavior is the amount of time I spend per day napping. If my nightly sleeping patterns were increased, I could eliminate the need for naps during the day.…

As I set off to do this modification, I thought to myself, how easy this will be. I thought, I can do this with ease. I knew I had it in me to obtain this goal. What I found out is it was not so easy for me. I am my worst enemy as the saying goes. I found myself giving negative thoughts and I had to push these thoughts out of my head in order to exercise for at least 30 minutes. I thought I would walk on Mondays and Wednesdays right after I got out of school. This rarely happened. I usually came home and took a nap. I had to adjust my sleep pattern because I was used to sleeping in until 9 A.M. but now I had to be in class by 8 A.M. So I had to force myself to go to bed earlier. I then got the bright idea that maybe I could sneak in a walk before class. That NEVER happened. I barely got on schedule to get up in time to make it to class let alone walk before class. I was struggling and I am still struggling to exercise. My worse week, was week 1 and week 3. Along with my negative thoughts in my head about why I shouldn’t exercise, I had to still make time for my husband, children, dog and grandchildren. Sure I thought, I had no commitments at home to hold me back. I thought I would start school and exercise and have all the time in the world. Boy was I wrong! I have a lot of family support about going back to school and about trying to exercise but in my own mind, I feel guilty if I am not readily available to each one of them. I plan to continue this modification. I hope I get better at it. It has helped me understand that I need to think more positively about exercising. Up until this point, I thought about exercising with negative thoughts. I know if I keep the positive affirmations that I can do…

I have chosen to change a behavior in my cousin Steve W. Steve is a 45 year old male. He has many different behaviors which he would like to change, but quitting smoking is the behavior he wants to change the most. He smokes a little less than a pack of cigarettes a day, stating that he averages about 18-20 cigarettes each day. Steve also seems depressed, has a very low level of activity, and does not have as close of a relationship with his daughter (Alexis) as he would like. For this project I have decide to focus on his smoking. He has smoked for over 17 years and it is obviously very harmful to his health and affects almost every aspect of his life. Smoking affects his health dramatically. It also affects ability to exercise and affects his relationship with his 15 year old daughter (Alexis), as she cannot stand the smell of cigarettes and it makes her very sad that her father is hurting himself and shortening his life by smoking cigarettes. Alexis even told me that she feels like Steve cares more about smoking than he cares about her. Alexis has said she doesn’t like to be around Steve when he smells like cigarette smoke and that she is embarrassed when he goes around her friends and smells like cigarette smoke. Last year Steve had a mild heart attack and his doctors told him that he needs to quit smoking or the next heart attack could be even worse or possibly fatal. I have decided to focus on getting him to reduce the amount of cigarettes he smokes each day and to eventually quit smoking.…
