Beginner Band Characteristics

When I joined band, the arts vigorously pushed my future onto a different course by molding a new creation that would be better prepared for the oncoming storms brought by the adversities of being a young adult. I learned discipline, timeliness, efficiency, and many other values that I would have otherwise lacked without the trials posed by being in band. Aside from these militaristic and objective qualities, being a musician also instilled many subjective qualities within me that allow me to better appreciate aesthetics. Thinking back, I was undoubtedly a terrible oboist when I first picked up the instrument. Beginner band was a cacophony rather than flowing music as it should have been. I didn’t understand what to listen for. Now with a more
