Beethoven 9th Symphony Analysis
One of the most popular Beethoven’s works is the ninth symphony. An interesting performance with the philharmonic orchestra & oratorio chorus for Beethoven. The performance was at the musical art center, Wednesday, April 20 at 8 pm.in additional, the performance was by the conductor Carl St. Clair, Betsy Burleigh the Chorus Master and more. It was a very huge performance that a person must get a ticket whether he is a student or not.
Going into details about the music, the performance has only one Symphony, which is Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125. The symphony divided into 4 parts or pieces. Allegro ma non troppo, un poco maestoso, Molto vivace, Adagio molto e cantabile and Presto – Allegro assai – Recitativo – Allegro assai. Each part has a small different style.

It goes from high to low and the opposite. This piece is also fast and it has more drums. The piece has more like of repeating the notes from high to low. One times its calm and smooth and another time it’s completely the opposite, which makes it unique. The second moment of the symphony has a similar style like the first one but with different notes. However, in this piece I hear more of clear violin than drums. In additional, the first moment I heard this piece I felt that I know it somehow, then I remembered the Disney cartoons when they used these kinds of music in their movies. Sometimes visual media could help your memorizing the song without paying attention to the song itself.
The third part was Adagio molto e cantabile, this piece started very smoothly and calm like a beginning of a romantic movie or a history movie. The piece has a same level of notes, for most of the time. They used less violin, not many drums or other interments. It was slow and low and no repeating notes. I have notes that many people has been in a relax mode by listening to this

    The Rhodes College Orchestra began the evening with the Palladio by Karl Jenkins. The Palladio had three different movements. The first movement, the Allegretto, started steadily with the double bass, violoncello, and viola. Then, the tempo became faster and the music more intense, with firm bow strokes from the violin. Throughout most of the movement the rhythm was fast, though there were a few measures where the rhythm slows gradually, but only lasting briefly before it revives again. Towards the end, the mood became lighter and more cheerful, leading the piece to a strong and bold ending. The second movement, the Largo, began quietly. The tempo was slow throughout this movement. The melody was quiet during most of the movement, thus making the vibrato more prominent. The music was loud at the center of the movement, but started to get slower and quieter when approaching the end, letting the ending gently fade out.     The orchestras played this piece to create a great closing to the concert. The conductor made a great decision to arrange this song to be at the end giving almost a sense of closure. The addition of the percussionist again helped give the piece the nice lifted feeling, as well as help the orchestra stay together; however the dynamic contrast between the four sections was rather light.The use of a snare drum drastically changed this piece, it feels more like a slow waltz. The little use of dynamics, however, kept the melody from popping out as much as it should have. In the beginning of the piece everybody played the notes with space between then; however towards the end, a few of orchestra members played the notes smoothly and connected whereas the rest of the orchestra played the notes spaced. The intonation and a steady tempo was retained throughout the performance which gave this piece a focused tone. The violins and violas did an excellent job using full bows, but the cellos needed to use long bows so they can create a deep, rich, and crisp sound. According to Jones, “The finale engages primarily with the first movement’s motoric characteristics, it presents a more thorough synthesis of sentiment and the sublime than the Adagio.” Beethoven used the sixteenth notes on both the melody and accompany.     This is an amazing energetic piece by the presented of these instruments: piano, cowbell, timpani, maracas, voices (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass).     The general texture in the music seemed to be homophonic in nature. The pieces themselves seemed flexible however while suddenly changing paces from one texture to another. The dynamics of the pieces flowed well together and provided listeners with what need to be heard and to what degree. I found it to be most striking when the dynamics of certain pieces would come together along with the rhythm of the ensembles piece. To me the most striking were the pieces that were through composed. These pieces really felt like they were multiple pieces that were flowing gracefully between one another. I felt that there was a certain tempo and rhythm that was similar and must have been popular and commonplace when the ensemble would play pieces from the 18th and the 19th centuries. All of the elements of music were used in the concert, but have attracted me the most was the beautiful harmonies (they were traditional and simple, but very effective and lovely to hear, and their were certain jazz harmonies that were lovely to hear.). There were also long agile melodic lines in a contrapuntal texture with strong and driving rhythm that provided a wonder sound.
