Becoming Juno By Pam Munoz Ryana
Becoming Naomi León, written by Pam Munoz Ryan, is about a young girl named Naomi Soledad León Outlaw, who deals with lots of struggles getting through her unexpected life. Naomi, the main character and narrator, grew up in a small town known as Lemon Tree, California for most of her life. She lives with her Gram and brother, Owen, in the Avocado Acres Trailer Rancho Park. Owen was born with some health problems, however; his Gram helped him conquer those problems by taking him to a therapist. One thing that Owen likes is tape on his chest because it helps him breathe. Naomi and Owen both attend the same school, Buena Vista Elementary. At their school, they are constantly made fun of their last name, “Outlaw.” During their free times, Naomi loves to make lists of topics and carve many figures out of soap while Owen loves to simply play checkers. Naomi and Owen aren’t growing up living a rich life, yet they cherish the little things they have, such as their family; …show more content…
She slept on Grams sofa for a couple days in their trailer. Naomi and Owen acknowledged the way Skyla dressed and the red Mustang that she drove. Throughout the many days she stayed, Skyla managed to buy the kids and Gram tons of stuff. She bought Naomi and Owen tons of clothes and Gram a new table set that fits perfectly in their trailer. Both of Skyla’s parents passed away in a car accident when she was around Naomi’s age. Skyla then went to live with her moms mom, Gram, until eventually she got married to a guy name Santiago and had Naomi and Owen who now have been living with Gram for about seven years. Gram is worried that Skyla has come to take custody of the kids and she feels that she has all the power because she can’t prove her custody due to the reason that Skyla is their mother.
