Becoming An Actuary Essay
Heading into my senior year I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life after receiving a high school diploma. From twelve years of education I learned mathematics is my strong suit and what I want my career focused around. But as a competitive athlete I knew my options for certain majors and minors would be limited because I wanted to obtain an athletic scholarship wherever I attended. After thorough research and five college visits, I am now certain that I am going to become an actuary. Becoming an actuary would fit my desire of using mathematics in my everyday work and preferred starting salary amount. Now, I have my final high school schedule that is beginning my path to becoming an actuary. After one of my elders failed out of college on their first attempt, I was raised to make sure I do not do the same. “A and B” honor roll has been the standard every quarter from kindergarten through twelfth grade while taking honors and advanced placement classes. Not to mention participation in elite programs such as National Honor Society and Beta Club, where I served as officers my senior year. The biggest goal I have is to make my family proud and not to ever worry about living a chaotic life. Being the first-born child of a military man led to many obstacles and …show more content…
Without the life he gave me, I may have never been able to realistically pursue collegiate athletics. My heart has belonged to the ball field ever since I stepped foot on it and the sport itself has always remained an extremely high priority in my life. I have done whatever it takes to become the best player I could be and even after my years of playing are over, I want the sport to remain apart of my life. In the near future, I will make a decision that will give every minute spent at the ball field meaning, while initiating the official start of my college education and collegiate softball

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

Today, I am a graduate of CUNY Baruch College with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Operations Management. Although undeniably rewarding, the road to graduation was, to say the least, strenuous. When I began the pursuit of an undergraduate degree, I was determined on becoming an accountant. However, instead of solidifying my interest in this major, the demanding curriculum along with being employed full time took a toll on my GPA. As a result, I came to the realization that…

Does anyone have a hard time choosing what career or job which they really want to do in the future? I personally have two jobs that I am considering right now: actuary and physical therapist. Actuaries basically manage risk. They help organizations plan for the future and protect themselves from loss. Physical therapists use a variety of techniques to improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent permanent physical disabilities in their patients. The reason why I am choosing between these two jobs is very much related to my past experience. Since my youth, I was influenced by my elder sister who is very good in mathematics. Due to her influence, I have a big interest in mathematics. I wish my future job will be related to mathematics, which is why I considered becoming an actuary. In addition, I love to watch dramas that are related to medical education. In fact, I just finished watching a Hong Kong drama named ‘On Call 36 Hours’. It is a medical drama. After watching that drama, I have the desire to help those injured patients to recover from pains and injuries. Although many might think these two jobs are very different, they have very much in common.…

    Lawyer Actuary Essay

“What’s your ideal job?” If I were asked the question I guess my answer would be lawyer/ actuary. As we all know, actuary and lawyer are usually the cores of a giant company. Many people would assume they are unrelated. Indeed, what they are in charge of is unrelated. Lawyers usually deal with external affairs such as law cases, while actuaries deal with internal affairs like investment valuation. However, as I was pretty interested in both jobs, I looked closely at them and I found a lot of similarities between them, which are the salary, qualification, and ways of working as well as their prestige.…

Athletics has been an integral component of my entire life. While never being the most athletic or skilled, baseball was my passion growing up. The sport served as a garden for me to grow as a person, learn invaluable lessons, and gain friendships that will last a lifetime. After years of playing year-round, I was blessed to have the option of playing at a couple Small Division II schools or pursue a more academically rigorous degree at UVa. Ultimately, I chose the latter and it has been at the University of Virginia where CrossFit transformed from a supplementary regimen to my passion.…

The school that I come from, Campolindo High School, is one of the best high schools in the state. We were often told to not be worried about getting what we believe to be bad grades in the harder classes that we take because getting a B or sometimes even a C is equivalent to get an A in most other high schools. We have been told throughout high school that a high standard is expected of us, like receiving high scores on standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, AP exams, the CAHSEE, and the Star tests. We are also expected to behave a certain way outside of school because it has a reputation to uphold and all of us are linked to that reputation. I think that high standard from Campolindo has transferred and been engrained in life outside of school. From this point on in my life, I will expect only the best of myself because anything less than that isn’t worth the time or the effort and it just looks bad to other people as well. I don’t have to succeed all the time in everything that I do, but I must always learn from what I fail at so the next time I attempt it, I will succeed. Campolindo High School has opened up endless possibilities for my future and I am very excited to experience them.…

Since its establishment, the National Honor Society has been built upon the core values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Throughout the years, National Honor Society has upheld these pillars, and its outstanding club members strive to embody these values in every aspect of their lives. However, these four principles add up to become something much more over the course of National Honor Society’s lifetime -- its legacy. These four honorable tenets are what constitutes a legacy, and I wish to become an individual who represents all of these core values -- and more. I genuinely believe that I exemplify most of the qualities that National Honor Society values, and though I am aware that I am still lacking in some, I will work…

Having grown up in a single parent home with two sisters who did not complete high school, made the pressure for me to succeed unimaginable. The constant reminder of achieving greatness has stuck with me since I was eight years old. Throughout middle school I was top of my class, in high school I graduated cum laude with a 4.4 GPA and currently in my 1st year of college I am top of my intermediate/college algebra class, I scored the highest grade out of all 5 of my psychology teachers classes, and I have an A in my Philosophy class. My educational goals consist of gaining knowledge throughout my entire life, achieving higher than my goals, being as involved as I can possibly be with my college/ community, and continuing to prosper. Recently I was asked to join the Honor Society. At the beginning I was skeptical because I had no clue what it was or its use. But then I had my mom explain it to me. Honor Society will help me get into a good college and expand my knowledge. But to join this group, I had to think ‘Am I ready for this commitment? Am I going to be able to sustain the required GPA?’ After some thought, I decided, I am ready and able. The only thing standing in my way now, is a paper, this paper to be exact, on my activities, achievements, and positive traits.…

Our group, “The Super Six” focussed our research on the problem of ethics and actuarial science. As Sholom Feldblum states “The actuary has a dual role: an objective professional providing guidance on insurance issues and a business manager promoting the goals of an insurance company” (Sholom Feldblum, pg.1). The purpose of our research was to determine the most common ethical problems an actuary faces, and the most appropriate methods to solve these problems. Solutions were necessary so that our stakeholders, current and prospective actuaries, will have more guidance when faced with these dilemmas.…
