The photo Vapour Trail 1991 was taken from a low angle shot. Taking the image from this angle allows Cotton to include the vapour trail and the clouds in the sky and environment around it. I chose this picture because the tree just drew me in. I can see myself sitting in one of the bends of the branches with a book just spending the entire day reading and taking in the peace that seems to surround the area. The knots in the branches show that not all is easy there on Martha’s Vineyard and the weather can be brutal but that the strong can survive. Siskind used a large format camera to take the photograph and then developed it using gelatin silver.…

The photo contains bright vivid colors of blue, orange and green. The orange color really stands out due it its contrast with the reflecting water and the blue sky. The orange on the mountain also seems to really stand out because of where the colors blue and orange sit on the color wheel. The color wheel (ROYGBV) contains red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The colors on are the wheel have blue and orange to sit opposite of each other. When the colors are like this it makes it more appealing to the human eye. Many painters use this wheel to make very appealing color combination in their work, Rowell was lucky enough to find the colors in nature and take such a stunning photo. Rowell finds inspiration in many places and seems to be very talented in showing his work. According to The Washington Post, “Galen Rowell may be the foremost practitioner of that hybrid art, photojournalism.” No scene was ever taken for granted. Rowell’s favorite landscapes feature unexpected convergence of light and form, seemingly unrepeatable moments captured by combining imagination and action with a clear understanding of outdoor optical phenomena. Rowell calls these images “dynamic landscapes,” and his search for them is recorded in his most well-known 1986 book, Mountain Light: In Search of the Dynamic Landscape. His favorite images consist of people that show them in connection with a specific part environment in delicate harmony. Arnab Banerjee also had a similar color scheme in his photo of…

These tunnels were created many years ago because of the mines. Guanajuato is famous for it’s mines of gold, silver and copper. We took a tour around the first gold mine. It was all dark, with only a few small lights to illuminate the way where we were walking. The little boy, who was our tour guide, was explaining how the gold was found. I remember that he told a story about ghosts. He said that because many mine workers died while working, their souls were all around the mine looking for gold pretending like they were still working. I got scared when he told the story and I could not be there anymore. I wanted to get out of the mine but we were only half way so I had to wait to get to the exit. As he was telling more stories, I was really nervous to find a ghost. When we finally ended the tour, I was so happy that I could not pay attention to what the tour guide was saying at the end of his story. Later one of my friends told me that the story the guide was telling was all a lie. He said that to make it more interesting they were told to do that in order to get people scared during the tour. I think they did a good job with me since I really got scared. In addition, I was glad that the story was never…

At the base of Mount Fuji, Aokigahara is located, is it believed to be the most infamous forest in all Japan. This is also known as the Sea of Trees(Jukai), Suicide Forest and Japan’s Demon Forest. This forest has over 500 confirmed suicides since the 1950s (TOFUGU). Aokigahara is a forest that spreads across the northwest base of Mount Fuji, it is less than 100 miles from the west of Tokyo. This forest is growing on top a lava that flowed during the eruption of Mt. Fuji in 864. The forest has been here around 1,200 years ago. Although the lava that flowed from Mt. Fuji turned the place into a burnt-out wasteland, it later on cooled down. This is when the trees began to bud anew and the forest was regenerated. For a forest, which thrives for…

The image is of a picture taken outside in the wilderness by a mountain bordering a forest of pine trees and a small body of water. This image appeals to me because it reminds me of a simple, happy, peaceful setting where its care free with the thought of no responsibilities. The color appears as if there is an overcast, the clouds also make it apparent. There is little to no light coming through the atmosphere, thus the small body of water reflects no sunlight. There are several pine trees, so the area must be a forest. The texture of the trees appears to be rough and jagged. The mountain side in the background appears to be smooth in texture and the rocky area in the foreground appears rough in texture. The sky sets a shadow on the background of the mountains. The shape of the trees as they reflect off the surface of the water seems to be irregular. The straight line of the rocky texture in the foreground makes it present that there is a slope downward to the forest. The use of primary and secondary colors in the composition makes it more presentable. The eye is constantly drawn to the small body of water in the center. There is a repetition of the pine trees across the area. In the background behind the pine trees, there is another body of water larger than the body of water in the middle of the area. The appearance of the soil appears to be smooth and rough simultaneously. The jagged rocks and pebbles give the effect that the surface is not as smooth as the mountain side in the background. Overall the image as a whole is pleasing to the eye and represents a pristine environment untouched by human pollution, corruption, or…
