Babysitter Monologue
I can’t think of any reason why my parents would do this to me. I try to think of everything that I have bought this past week, but nothing comes to my mind. I recall the conversation we had, only a couple minutes ago when my parents came barging into my room, offering a deal. Slowly and hesitantly they said “We’ve decided to let you have the dog -- but only if you can earn the money to take care of it.”
I groaned a little, “but that’s hundreds of dollars,” I replied distastefully.
“You've been spending way too much money lately and the only way you’ll learn is if you start earning your own money. Until then, your mom and I aren’t going to buy you things anymore,” my dad said sternly, gesturing around my room.
“So you're like, cutting me off? ” I

Back to the present, I plop my laptop onto my bed and start searching up business ideas. Many great ones came up but only one of them really caught my eye. A babysitting business. It’s perfect, I thought to myself. I start calling all the people on my street who have children and ask them if they need a babysitter. My rate was 7$ an hour. It is hard going, but I soon have about 5 people who are willing to give me a try. 5 people. It might not be a lot, but at least it’s something.
Today is my first job. Walking out the door, I acknowledge the butterflies in my stomach. This isn’t going to be hard, I think, trying to be optimistic. I almost fool myself. When I walk up the steps of the Monroe’s, the butterflies have turned into wild animals, clawing at my insides. I knock on the door, and a friendly and familiar face looks back at me. “Hi Aaron,” I say nervously. With a squeal, he runs away from the door, leaving it open. Was that normal? Mrs. Monroe invites me inside with a warm smile. She gives me a bunch of information about her whereabouts, that I try very hard to listen to, but my ears roar with

“Ugh!”, he grunts from how large the suitcase is. “Will you be able to carry that, Scottie?” she says, her face, worn from time, twists with concern for her son. “Of course”, he laughs. “Okay, if you’re sure.” She says as she opens the metal gate to the front yard. They slowly walk through the cracked pathway until they reach the steps to the porch. Beatrice opens the sturdy door with her keys. “Honey, I’m home!” Scottie yells into the empty living room. “Must you do that every time you come inside the house?” She says fondly. “Of course, I must.” He says as if she should already have known the answer. While they were talking, Alice and Jake, Scottie’s younger siblings, heard his announcement and excitedly ran out of their room and down the beige stairs. “Stop making all that racket!” she admonishes her children. “SCOTTIE!” they yell out enthusiastically. “You’re home!” Alice states, full of wonder that her big older brother is finally back where he belongs. “Well, it’s obvious that I’m home unless I’m an imposer who’s secretly an alien”, He jokes, winking at Alice. “I definitely didn’t miss your humor,” Jake lightheartedly says. “Oh, come on, I tell the best jokes”, Scottie says smiling. “Yeah right, in your dreams”, Jake jokingly teases. “Leave your brother alone for right now. He had a long trip and he’s probably exhausted.” Beatrice gently tells to her…

My parents think they can see through my lies and bull crap excuses so I had to make it believable. The easiest thing about all of this was that I have a daughter, which means that she has daycare and doctor’s appointments to be at. I also have a job that I have to be on time for, and depending on my parents to get me to work is not always the fun option for them. I had to consider my advantages and disadvantages of the situation. The hard part about the whole discussion with my mom and dad was that I had to avoid the disadvantages of me getting a car. Like gas, insurance, and the maintenance cost of owning a vehicle. So I had to arrange my argument to where they wouldn’t ask me questions about any of…

There are three different options available for childcare; in-home childcare, day care centers and babysitters. With in-home child care, you hire a nanny to look after your children at home. For most families this is the easiest option for them however it is the most expensive. A day care center is an actual place parents bring their children to and it allows them to interact with other children and learn social skills. A downside to daycare centers is the risk of your child facing fights with other children. The final option listed involves hiring a babysitter. Babysitters are usually rotated and paid only when they watch the children opposed to a regular flow of income. You must be very careful when choosing a baby sitter, and be sure to run background checks. I personally believe that day care centers will be the most beneficial for me when I decide to start a family.…

First, the babysitter needs to learn who the child is; also, make the child aware of whom their babysitter is. A child who normally kicks, screams, and acts out is a child searching for true attention and interaction. Children of different ages have different concerns and attitudes about a babysitter. The babysitter decides whether the night ends with the child requesting an encore or requesting a different babysitter. Many children will be stubborn due to the overall situation of the presence of a babysitter or even the absence of their parents or guardians. In the case of an adolescent, the babysitter can assure him or her of appropriate treatment in regard to the age. With a younger child, use comfort. A babysitter should assure the child, in whatever way possible, of their interest in them and what they like to do!…

All my life, my parents have told me that we don’t have money. They struggle to pay the bills each month, are thousands of dollars in debt, and constantly worry and stress about where they can find the money so that my family is set until next payday. I have watched my dad work up to four jobs at a time while trying to provide for us and make ends meet. Adding to the financial burden, my parents are both the youngest children in their families and became the de facto caregivers for all four of my grandparents, the last two of which have died in the past 14 months. All my life, I have watched my parents sacrifice for my siblings and I, as well as anyone else who needs their help, while they themselves are in need of assistance.…

I push the door open. The bell tinkles, with a soft but shrill ring. A wave of rubber gloves and disinfectant masked with cheap air freshener washes over me. Chairs are cluttered in the waiting room of the dentists. Clusters of magazines lie on the scratched wood of the coffee tables, shiny bright plastic screaming out logos and slogans. A little way forward from where I stand is a desk. A smiling receptionist sits there. She seems to have been expecting me somehow, as she indicates to the couches and chairs.…

It was Christmas time. Me and my brother Max had gone to the mall. We went there to get a present for your mom and dad. I was very used to babysit Max. I have done it for 3 years going so I thought that I could easily handle him. When we got to the mall Max wanted to go to the toy shop. I told him that we could go in there for only 10 min. When we got into the shop Max immediately ran to the Lego section. I looked away for just 5 seconds. When I looked back Max was gone. At first I thought that he had just gone to look at another rack. I went around looking for him. After at while I started panicking. “How could I had let this happen” I thought to myself. My mom has always told me that whenever I was babysitting Max I had to stay focused…
