Sephora and Ulta are different in many ways. For example, Sephora has a higher end of makeup brands like Laura, Mercier, Dior, and Nars. On the other hand, Ulta has more of a drug store products. Ulta also has more hair products and nail products to offer and Sephora does not. The ratings between these two makeup stores are not too far apart. After 6 days of investment, my results were that ULTA made me a profit and Estee Lauder lost me money. ULTA gave me a profit of $11.43 and, unfortunately, Estee Lauder gave me a negative balance of $13.80. However, even though I did not make a grand profit, I do believe the articles above are right when stating that these are long term investments. In addition, 6 days is not enough time to my an enormous profit off these companies. This project provided me greater insight into the stock market. I was able to see how fast the numbers change each day. Therefore, stocks can be quite risky. That being, there is an urge to sell your shares as soon as prices go up. Yet, for stocks like ULTA and Estee Lauder is is better to be in the long haul.…

The two companies I chose to compare were Sephora and Ulta Beauty. Both stores are cosmetic retailers and sell many of the same products. Sephora has been around longer originating in Paris in the year 1970, and opening it 's first U.S store in 1998. Sephora runs approximately 1,300 stores in 27 countries worldwide, with a consistently growing base of over 300 stores across North America. Ulta Beauty was founded in 1990 trying to reach out to women as a place to shop other than department stores and drugstores for their beauty needs. As of 2013, Ulta is operating 576 stores across the span of 46 states. The company has also equipped each of their stores with a full service salon, hoping that women would appreciate the one stop shopping experience. Although both chains have similar product and price points, they possess two very different advertising, promotional and customer service styles and different ways in how they present themselves to the public.…

Zappos’ excellent customer service is a distinct competitive advantage. Another one is their acquisition of the online discount shoe retailer 6pm. The five common marketing orientations are production, sales, customer, strategic marketing, and social marketing. The production orientation does not apply to Avon. Initially when Avon entered its first foreign market, it went to nearby Canada probably focusing on a sales orientation with little product adaptation. Today, Avon utilizes aspects of customer, strategic marketing, and social marketing in its global strategy. Avon modifies its products to meet specific customers’ needs such as technology-driven skin care products in Japan and including insect repellent in the Brazilian skin cream. Avon modified its distribution method, particularly in China, as part of the overall strategic marketing orientation. Avon’s social marketing orientation is part of its global image supporting women and their needs. Specific programs include fighting breast cancer and domestic violence.…
