In Lloyd Alexander’s book The Book of Three, a young man named Taran chafes under his apparent nothingness. After listening to Taran’s rant, Coll, his mentor, gives him a title: Assistant Pig-Keeper. However, this is only a title to the same responsibilities Taran is doing and has been doing for quite a while. This is not enough for Taran, who dreams of being a knight and becoming a hero by his acts of bravery.…
Each person has a distinct, identifiable personality. These personalities are the basis of who we are and how we live our lives. Growing up, these personalities are formed through associations and manipulations of the personalities of others. This is clearly evident in Mordecai Richler's The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz. In this novel, we follow Duddy Kravitz's life from early adolescence to adulthood. Throughout the novel, signs are given as to the development of Duddy's good and bad personalities. Even at the early stages, Duddy's uncle Benjy was the only one who could identify them and knew what the end result was going to be. Despite all this, we watch these personalities grow to the point where they are beginning to overpower each other and eventually, only one will remain.…

The Pigman is a novel about two kids, John and Lorraine, and Mr. Pignati who is known as “The Pigman.” John and Lorraine are tenth graders and are very different people. John swears and drinks a lot, unlike Lorraine. Lorraine is a very sweet and caring person. One of John’s avocations is bombing the bathrooms at school. He is known as the bathroom bomber because he likes to just set them off at random times. John’s best friend is Norton, who is antagonistic and mundane in some ways. Also, he was an ingrate person. One day John and Lorraine were over at their friend's house calling random people. It was a game they played to see who could talk to a random person from the number directory the longest. It was Lorraine’s turn to pick someone to…

He remains in solidarity, rarely speaking and gaining trust of both Jack and Ralph, who fight for the position of a leader. Simon is never aroused into violence, and manages to remain the only boy who is truly, consistently good, partly because of his nature. He remains good because his human nature is not provoked into savagery; he is simply above all the others. As for Piggy, his intellect arouses in him, a want to be heard; to spread his new and innovative ideas, instead of concealing them like Simon. Piggy represents the rational side of society, which at times makes him cold and careless of everything, except for gaining acceptance. The two represent separate parts of the deteriorating morality amongst the other boys, Piggy and Simon possess the qualities that are disregarded in the tumult of survival; Piggy is rational and intellectual, while Simon is the purity and goodness in people.…
I chose the book Poppleton, written by Cynthia Rylant and Illustrated by Mark Teague to complete my body biography on. I analyzed Poppleton the pig to be a very caring and kind hearted character. Poppleton was always putting others first in the chapter book and when he made them feel bad or sad; he would apologize for his mistakes and make a humorous situation out of it. Poppleton also would be caring because his friend was very sick and Poppleton did everything that he could in order to help his friend feel better but end up getting sick himself. Poppleton also was very independent when it came to doing his daily routine, which was going to the library every Monday. Poppleton would make it known to other people around him that it was his…
In the story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, the main character, Charlie Gordon, is very dynamic. He has to undergo many changes throughout the story, some of them were advantageous, but some of them were unfortunate. Originally he starts out as a man with an IQ of around 70, but after an operation he acquires a higher level of intellectuality. Both good and bad results arose out of this. For example, Charlie used to be naïve, unintelligent, and ignorantly blissful. However, that was before his operation. Afterwards he gains new insights about his old life, writes a beneficial paper to society, but becomes disconsolate. And although he reverts to his old self again he doesn’t become hostile towards others. Through all of his misfortune he still has the determination to try to get smart again, and is noble enough to leave everyone he knows when he realizes that his presence is hurting them.…

Williams Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies uses Sigmund Freud’s personality structural theory: Id, Ego and Superego. Each character in the book starts off with one personality, but then their mind is challenged when they crash into a deserted island. The boys have no parental authority and they realize it. At first they think life is going to be alright until most of them turn into a complete wild savage and they are no longer the well-behaved school boy they once were. Golding uses Freud’s personality theory to explain the personalities of the main characters. Ralph is the Ego, Jack is the Id, and Piggy is the Super-Ego.…
“Source traits” are what Raymond Cattell called the sixteen factors that underlie ones personality (Pervin, John, & Cervone, 2005). These factors include; warmth, reasoning, emotional stability, dominance, liveliness, rule-consciousness, social boldness, sensitivity, vigilance, abstractedness, privateness, apprehension, openness to change, self reliance, perfectionism, and tension. Cattell suggests that each behavior is influenced by specific situations (Meit, Borgess and Early, 2007). All of us are given choices throughout life and from these experiences we learn life lessons. Cattell developed these 16 factors by developing and assessing the rates of tests (Pervin, John and Cervone, 2005).…
