Art of racing in the rain
Summer Reading Essay Over the summer, I have read a several good books but the one that got me the most emotional and heart-wrenching is a novel which I would love to share with you called "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Personally, I enjoyed and loved reading this book from the moment I flipped from the first page to the last. It is a wonderfully written novel were told by a very interesting character's perspective and is set in Whidbey Island, US. It will bring tears, laughter, excitement to readers. The Art of Racing in the Rain is a fun but heartbreakingly sad touching story told from the point of view of a loyal Labrador mix named Enzo. The narrator cleverly tells the tale of his life and shares the imaginations and feelings of his greatest desire to come back in the next life as a human. Enzo is not just a normal dog, but a philosopher and observer of humans. Aware of the fact that he is different from other dogs, he has educated and taught himself by watching television and listening attentively to every words of Denny Swift who is his master in the story and also is a race car driver. As Enzo reflects on his life, the tale is not only about him but his family also. Denny was single when he came to the puppy farm and decided to choose Enzo. Enzo adores and admires his master and he lives up as a "man's best friend" role. Until Eve came into their lives, Enzo had to share his time with Denny but he does like how Denny's girlfriend Eve always make him look so happy and silly. Slowly, Enzo grows to love Eve, feels connected and thinks her as a family member as well. He again learns another new kind of love and responsibility when Zoe's birth arrived. Enzo knows he is now little Zoe's protector and a trusted four legged friend. Denny lives a rough life during this book, and Enzo was there for all of it no matter what happens. One day a disease in Eve's brain broke out and everything changed as her parents insisted that Zoe and Eve

The book I chose this week is called "Tjatjakaymatchan (Coyote) A legend from Carmel Valley" by Alex O. Ramirez and is a Native American tale about why the coyote calls into the night. I would categorize this book as fiction because of the talking coyote and fox. I decided to read this book because of my Choctaw heritage and it reminded me that many first people languages and stories are vanishing into the time because they not written down most of the time. The most interesting piece of information that I found was about why this book was published and it was because the writer's friends encouraged him to write down his memories of his Elders so that they would not fade into time. I also thought his illustrations were interesting because unlike…

According to Frontline and an interview with COL Perkins, “as the United States developed its war plan, it was clear that it would have to take Baghdad to have a decisive victory”.5 COL Perkin’s knew this and provided his unit with clear and concise purpose as well as the desired end state when conducting both Thunder Runs. The intent was to collect intelligence, push through city and remain downtown if specific conditions were met. The end state was to collapse the Saddam Government and Iraqi regime. Perkins acted on the guidance from LTG Wallace and MG Blount, and relayed it down to his three subordinate battalion commanders. COL Perkins ensured there was no confusion due to the high risk involved. He gave orders to “attack as fast as you can, and push through the center of the city. If a vehicle becomes disabled due to enemy fire, you immediately take the crew off, put them on another vehicle, and you just leave it”.6 COL Perkins gave specific guidance on Objective Moe, Larry and Curly which was crucial to keeping…

I read the book what Happened to Cass McBride. It was a very good book that keeps you on your toes. What I liked most about it though was that you would never expect what happens in the end of the story. I also like that the main character who stayed strong through the whole book and it teaches people who read this, that just when you think it’s over, it’s really not. This is one of my favorite books that I have read.…

Distinctively visual Images and the ideas conveyed through them can both enhance or challenge our understanding of the world and humanity. Ideas associated with images can be powerfull enough to provoke further thinking and understanding of certain matters. This is greatly evident in the 1998 German thriller film “Run Lola Run” directed and written by Tom Tykwer together with the poem “Summer Rain” by John Foulcher. Through the use of strong images these two texts manage to express their main ideas such as chaos and its relationship with time. In “RLR” we witness the protagonists facing dilemma due to these two aspects of the world, seeking to overcome them with determination and love. Meanwhile “Summer Rain” shows the unpredictability of these ideas and their destructive power to harm or chip away.…

The Kite Runner is the book I recommend more than The Color Purple by Alice Walker for incoming 9th Grade Honors students. The Kite Runner shows very emotional story of friendship, family, mistakes, and love. It was a very interesting book which caught my attention and drew me in. Although The Color Purple was a book about a less fortunate, uneducated, African-American fourteen-year-old girl who comes across struggles in her life so, began to writes letters to God to help and guide her. I don't recommend this book as much only because the book was written using slang which made it challenging to read and comprehend and The Color Purple not as entertaining.…

In The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein the main character, Enzo, who also happens to be a dog, shows how caring he is. Throughout the book Enzo always puts his family (Denny, Eve, and Zoe) first. He dedicates his life to protecting them and always tries his best to warn the family about things such as Eve’s cancer. He shows compassion towards the family even when they forget about him and leave him at their house for multiple days alone with no food or water. He forgives the family for all of their mistakes and always looks out for their best interests. Enzo also always wants the best for the family even if it means he gets left behind and he always puts himself second. When Denny gets opportunities to race but has to leave Enzo behind…

I chose the book Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I chose this book because I had watched the movie a long time ago and everyone says the book is always better than the movie. I knew I was going to like it because I love animals and I have always wanted to be a veterinarian just like Jacob in this book. I thought it was very inspiring how even after Jacob learns that his parents have been killed in the car crash and their home has been mortgaged to pay for his tuition and the house is not to become his home, he leaves his college right before he has nearly graduated. He jumps on a train, not knowing it is a circus train belonging to the Benzini Brothers. Jacob is nearly kicked off of the train but when the owner of the circus, Uncle Al finds out about Jacob’s training as a vet, he hires Jacob to take care of his circus animals. I believe it is was a miracle. Jacob is hardworking and does whatever he can to protect what and who he loves. Unlike some people Jacob was aware that August was a mean man that abuses the animals and the people around him, but comes off as a charming man, he felt he had to develop a guarded relationship to protect Rosie and Marlena. Jacob was an all around caring person, he helped people as much as possible like when he helped Camel who became paralyzed and the circus had no need for him anymore, Jacob knew August would kick him off the train so he took care of Camel until the circus got to the providence, which is where Camel’s son was located. I think that the message in this book is that when there is no hope left in you that you need to just keep moving because whether you believe it or not things will get better. That is what happened to Jacob numerous times in this book, he had a lot of tough times but he got through them eventually. I like that you can imagine what is happening in your head the whole time you are reading this book, but for example “Rosie stretches out her trunk, reaching for…

However, Leah ran away after her hospital stay and stayed with Elijah who was instrumental in her healing. He left her at the motel and she was alone with her visions of Cassie and her guilt. She didn’t eat and was fading quickly, but then she began to remember things she had promised Emma she would do with her. She also figured out why Cassie couldn’t move on and gave her what she needed so she could rest in peace. Boys In The Boat by Daniel James Brown is a book that has many themes and it is a book that can give you advice on nearly everything. All that is required is to read it. Boys In The Boat was a very tense book. This book is about a rowing team that took time during 1920/1930s and it explains their journey from when they were just born to when they passed. The thing that made this book interesting is that the team had there ups and downs. One day the best thing would happen to them and the next not so much. I also like this book and recommend it to other people because it explains the importance of teamwork, trust and family. Without these the team would completely fail and they would not have ended up where they were. “Except for Don Hume,…
