Arguments For Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of marijuana in the United States has always been a controversial issue. My personal opinion is that, legalizing marijuana will have nothing but a positive effect on our country and I am all for it. There are many reasons that I support legalizing marijuana for recreational and/or medical uses. I believe it would be beneficial to legalize it on a federal level, as it would offer many economic benefits for the whole country (2). As a boost in revenue, it would bring in a lot of funds at a time when our economy needs it the most! Also, it will give police officers more time, money, and opportunity to go after drugs and crimes that are far more dangerous to this country (1).Another valid reason for legalizing marijuana is that

    Marijuana is not as dangerous of a drug as some others that are available on the market for treating diseases. I personally know a friend whose family member was prescribed highly addictive painkillers after a back surgery. He then became addicted to them and was constantly having “accidents” that would end him up in the hospital just to get that feeling he was looking for, he even went as far as to crash his car into a tree resulting in his death. I believe that marijuana should become completely legal and be regulated just like tobacco. In other countries you can go to coffee shops and purchase marijuana and products that contain THC the chemical in marijuana that makes you feel high. I believe that like alcohol and tobacco marijuana can be one of those drugs that is easily taxed and generate a large amount of revenue for our government. Also it would save the government billions since many people less people would be going to jail for marijuana lessening the amount of money spent on these people in prison and the many other legal fees that come with prosecuting and detaining people.
