The Dow Jones Industrial Average is at an all-time high according to google finance (www.google.com/finance), which is a good indication that our economy is doing. It is a weighted indicator of how the stock market is doing, which in turn is a lot of people’s money. If it is up that means we have a growing economy and mostly everyone is happy. Pertaining to Black Friday, this is when most businesses’ get their shoppers. This is a time where you will see a big surge, or dip, in the stock market. Though these fluctuations in price are believed to only cause very-short term or long term effects, as said by Investopedia (How is the stock market affected by Thanksgiving and Black Friday? www.investopedia.com) They also stated that the long term effects still remain uncertain. Black Friday appears to be a big boost to big businesses and a dip for smaller ones; this is completely ridiculous. Buying products from all major businesses just hurts the economics for smaller businesses who cannot afford to advertise, to stoop prices as low as larger corporations.…

I realize that it is opposite of the manner in which this school had begun, but it seems as though we have little choice. The true story behind Black Friday, however, is not as sunny as retailers might have you believe. Back in the 1950s, police in the city of Philadelphia used the term to describe the chaos that ensued on the day after Thanksgiving, when hordes of suburban shoppers and tourists flooded into the city in advance of the big Army-Navy football game held on that Saturday every year. Not only would Philly cops not be able to take the day off, but they would have to work extra-long shifts dealing with the additional crowds and traffic. Shoplifters would also take advantage of the bedlam in stores to make off with merchandise, adding to the law enforcement headache.…

Do you remember how in Spongbob his friend was a penny? If we don’t have the penny then Spongbob will no longer have a friend. The United States should continue the production of the penny. The reason that we should continue the production of pennies is because the citizens of the United States do not deserve more change than is needed. It will be a lot easier just to keep the penny because then we don’t have to tell everyone to change. Also the penny is a big part of our history.…

However, I believe our country has forgotten about one thing: the struggles people who work in retail suffer. Growing up, I saw Black Friday go from starting at 4AM to Black Thursday at 3PM, before Thanksgiving dinner is even out on the table. Retail companies now call in their workers as early as 1PM just to get ready for the rush. I’m not allowed to get a seasonal job after my parents have seen precious, family time stolen from so many friends and family members on Thanksgiving. Retail is a hard field to work in, dealing with all the customers and time consumption, and a day off for Buy Nothing Day will give retail workers a much-needed day of relaxation.…

In this essay you are going to hear about how we celebrate Thanksgiving compared to how the first Americans celebrated. Our Thanksgivings are very different first off we use forks and spoons, the pilgrims mainly used their hands to eat their food. A thing the pilgrims did was the they ate the food closet to if it was across from them they wouldn’t eat it. We go around the table to get what we want to eat instead the pilgrim way of doing things. Thanksgiving became a holiday in the eighteen hundreds so it wasn’t really celebrated too often in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds.…

I am against Black Friday because I don’t like how people act when they are trying to get good sales instead of spending time with their family. My family members are far away from my home so I try to spend as much time with them. Black Friday is basically taking time away time from your family and risking the life of other people.
