"Destruction From Your Own Hands"

A family is a basic social unit in the community where life yearnings are rooted. A community is a group of people with common interests living in a particular locality that works together to build a nation. A nation is a race of people with shared values, culture, traditions, history, and language that is confined to one country. A country is the territory of a nation where every individual seeks to have a united body and contributes in any way possible to attain the building and rising of a progressive nation. This is the definition of a country but the concept of it is contrasting to what it is in the present and real world. This is really evident in the system of the Philippines. The real life situation of the Filipinos living in the country is the main source of the problems and sufferings that is simultaneously occurring before them. A nation is expected to help one another in solving a problem, to become stronger individuals, and to be an active member of the society. This is not the situation for the Filipino people because in order to solve a problem, they prefer to choose the path of destroying the nation rather than the path of building it. The Filipinos are the ones destroying their own country, the Philippines. A lot of factors, which aligns with the issues that the Philippines are facing, contribute in the way Filipino thinks. These factors lead to the response of the nation in addressing the problems. Actions that they think is right and can maintain the building of a great country but in reality is what will lead to the downfall of their nation.

Colonial mentality is one of the reasons why Filipinos are continuing destroying the Philippines. The way they think is already manipulated with thoughts of the foreign minds. A lot of people thought they are having a sense of nationalism and love for their country but the truth is that they are gradually taken away from their roots. The Philippines is known for having a multicultural way of living. The things we use, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the shows we watch, and even the way we interact is greatly influenced by the foreign countries and is already a part of our normal and daily lives. The true sense of Filipino culture is not that visible anymore in our country and is being blocked by the culture of others. The Philippine culture is slowly fading away and being destroyed by the Filipinos themselves with praising and embracing the things that other cultures or countries have. Another reason that is greatly affected by this destruction is on the issue of environment. In the Philippines, you would see a lot of undisciplined acts made by the residents to their surroundings. Every corner of the street, you would see trashes, either big or small, placed and settled in an improper place. Pollutions, especially in the city, are a widespread issue in our country. The reason for all of this mayhem is because of the lack of discipline that the Filipinos have. They think that the Philippines is a big trash can that it's okay to just throw your trash everywhere or to spit whenever and wherever you want to. All of these actions always lead to a consequence that affects the life of the nation like natural disasters or climate change. During those time, they would question God why are they fortunate to experience these sufferings. Being unaware of their actions beforehand, these disasters are not going to be that harmful if they only know how to take care and how to treat right the environment. It is neither God nor the nature that destroys our country, but it is the Filipino people themselves that cause such disasters to their country. It is because of their undisciplined acts that brings their life to danger. A beautiful and heaven-like nature was given to them for a place to live in but in return, they didn't care enough to preserve it beauty and unawaringly destroys it. The last reason to be pointed out is the greatest factor that really destroys the nation. The government or the politics is the head of the state that guides the Filipino nation. They are the ones responsible in taking care of their people and have the capability to rule them and make sure to obey the laws appropriate for the maintenance of a peaceful country. The Philippine government is not what it seems to be like because they contribute a lot for the destruction of the Philippines. Our type of government is a democratic one wherein the voice of the nation is the top priority. The Filipinos are the one who votes for the elected officials that will take care of the state. With our government officials, a lot of rallies and protests are occurring due to the issue of graft and corruption happening in the state. The government officials that were elected by the Filipino people create a system full of dishonesty and lack of passion to serve the nation. With the great effect of a dirty government, a lot of social issues are happening in our country like the rising rate of poverty. The unity in the Philippines is destroyed because of these unjust officials that were elected by the Filipino people. The Filipinos are again the responsible for the destruction of the united and peaceful nation for they elected people to seat in the position that is unworthy. Because of the lack of knowledge that Filipinos have, they would vote for the people that are either popular or that is really good in convincing. They wouldn't even think that deep if someone could actually lead the nation truthfully and passionately, and that could help in rebuilding the nation.

The Filipinos contributes a lot to the downfall of their own country. Being unaware of the real reason is main problem that needs to be solved to be able to stop the destruction of one's culture, of one's place and of one's system. Filipinos think that the way they respond to their problems is something that contributes in building of a united nation. Their unawareness of their actions is what brings them to a bigger problem ahead for they are gradually destroying their homeland, the Philippines. This would never stop unless someone would bravely stand up and speak up to become an eye opener to the real situation the Filipinos are going through. Not only a brave speaker should take the initiative to change but the Filipinos must also learn how to listen in order to fully turn them from destroyers to builders of their own country.

Lund 1 Aaron Lund Professor Dorn English 102 15 November XXXX Preserving Yellowstone’s Winter Wilderness Although a few recreational snowmobilers destroy fragile ecosystems and harass animals as they ride through the wilderness, most love and respect this country’s natural heritage. That’s why they brave the cold to explore what is left of wild America— including Yellowstone National Park. Unfortunately, however, even respectful snowmobilers are unwittingly damaging what they love. Because snowmobiles create both air and noise pollution and because their use in the park strains the already lean budget of the park service, recreational snowmobiles should be banned from Yellowstone National Park. In 2002, the Bush administration, under pressure from the snowmobile industry, proposed to reverse the National Park Service’s 2000 plan that would have phased out recreational snowmobile use in Yellowstone. In addition to reversing the earlier plan, the new policy would increase the number of snowmobiles allowed into the park per day. This policy is a step in the wrong direction. It may be hard to imagine that 1,100 snowmobiles a day (the proposed limit) could cause an air pollution problem in a park half the size of Connecticut, but in fact they can. The air pollution at park entrances has already become so bad in winter, according to environmental reporter Julie Cart, that fresh air has to be…

This essay is a compare and contrast of the character’s Sula and Nel from the novel ‘‘Sula’’ by Toni Morrison. Throughout the progression of the novel, Nel and Sula complement each other in ways that allows them to form a single functional unit friendship. The symbiotic nature between Sula and Nel began during their childhood years. Sula depended upon Nel for sturdiness and comfort, while Nel preferred the unpredictable nature of her sula. They used the other's lifestyle to compensate for their shortcomings by placing themselves in the other's surroundings. When Sula visited Nel's home, Nel, who loved the oppressive neatness with dread, felt comfortable in it, with Sula. In the same way, Sula found comfort within the walls of the Wright’s home. They took solace in each other's presence. Each one found comfort in what the other finds bothersome. Sula dislikes her disheveled house, and wishes that she could live in the clean house of Nel's. Nel likes the homeliness of Sula's house. As their relationship progressed, they began to act as an individual, or a symbiotic relationship where associations are peaceful cooperation’s between two entirely different types of organisms. Dependent describes the friend's relationship, because they depended on each other for everything. Sula and Nel's friendship, was as intense as it was sudden. They found relief in each other's personality, because they find their comfort in each other's environment. When Sula accidentally killed the boy named Chicken Little by throwing him into a river, Nel stuck by Sula. They both took responsibility for the accident, even though Sula was the only participant. At Chicken Little's funeral, Sula and Nel held hands and knew that only the coffin would lie in the earth; the bubbly laughter would stay aboveground with them forever. Their relationship up to this point, is a coexistence of happiness with each other.…

I believe the novel is a far superior experience in comparison to the movie. The Outsiders gives you a better insight into the characters thoughts and feelings. As the reader, you also gain knowledge through foreshadowing and flashbacks, which is not hinted in the movie. In addition to the written literary elements, the novel is described in great detail and gives you a deeper understanding of it.…

“Not Guilty” of murdering her two year old daughter, Caylee. How could this be? Casey Anthony was cleared of first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse charges on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. This is the biggest disputed verdict since the O.J. Simpson trial in 1995 and everyone has been watching as this trail unfolded a significant amount of evidence against Anthony. Finding Casey Anthony not guilty of murder is a misrepresentation of our judicial system because the evidence against her is overwhelming and Anthony continually told lies to the law enforcement authorities.…

The issue of whether or not college athletes should be paid for play has been a heated debate across the nation for years. Most would say that college athletes are already paid to play by the scholorships that they are given such as free tuition, meals, books, room and board. However, some would say that college athletes are being taken advantage of by the coaches, universities they attend and the NCAA because of the career ending injuries, lack of being able to support themselves off of campus and the lack of a complete education. There are many pros and cons to this heated debate and as we have seen in various reports and statements from the NCAA on why college athletes should or shouldn’t be paid to play.…

In America there are so many people who live without healthcare. President Obama has tried hard to change that known fact by introducing and passing his new Obama Care Act. It is very important for people to have proper healthcare coverage, medical care, affordable medications, and for all healthcare services to be available to everyone, whether they are poor, middle class or rich. For most Americans, high quality care generally is readily accessible without long waits but at high cost. However, the uninsured and, increasingly, the underinsured, the poor, and members of underserved minorities often have poor access to health care and poor health outcomes. The health workforce is well trained, yet the United States faces a severe shortage of primary care physicians. Approximately 45% of the U.S. population has a chronic medical condition, and about 60 million people, half of these, have multiple chronic conditions; the CDC estimated these numbers during a recent survey.…

Imagine that you are celebrating a great victory, and suddenly you hear that the person who led you to victory is dead− does the poem, “O Captain, My Captain” really portray that feeling? Walt Whitman was the author of the poem “O Captain, My Captain”. The purpose of the poem was to express to the readers how Americans felt after President Abraham Lincoln’s death. The poem did express a feeling of loss, but did it really show how the entire country felt? No− Walt Whitman’s poem does portray the sorrow, to some extent, but doesn’t really describe the deep feelings that took place after Lincoln’s death.…

One of the ways America took over the Philippines was false hope. When the Filipinos were at war with Spain to gain their freedom, America joined the war at the right time and sided with the Filipinos. They told the Filipinos that they were here to help them win the war, but in reality, they wanted to take over the Philippines (“U.S. War Crimes…”). As President McKinley (the U.S. president at that time) told them, “we come not as invaders or conquerors, but as friends, to protect the natives in their homes, in their employment, in their personal and religious rights.” (Toribio).…

Keeping the family intact as part of Philippines people culture is the fact that it is still being practiced today (which may be a bit feudal in nature) in many provinces and rural areas that only the father (tatay) of the house works outside while mothers (nanay) stay at home taking care of the kids helping them grow in strict Filipino values while doing all the household chores and trying to teach siblings how to do it at the right age. and…

Filipinos are also prominent for their close family ties. Filipinos are close to their families and relatives. They value a big family and they surely help a relative that is someone in need or who needs help. They always have a shoulder that can lean on especially during the hard times. In other countries, once an individual turns 18, it’s their responsibility to be independent and to stand on their own. On the other hand, Filipinos are totally opposite with them because of the close family ties. One concrete example is, almost the third generation of the family still lives on the same house together with the first and second generation. Another instance is, in every occasion, specifically Christmas, new year, birthdays, wedding celebrations, christening, anniversaries, etc., almost all the members of the family, or even the extended families and relatives are present on those occasions. And also, the parents work hard and sacrifice much for their children, in return, the children love and respect them and take good care of them in their old age. That’s how Filipino families are commonly defined.…

    Filipino Mode of Thinking

    • 970 Words

Our Filipino mode of thinking is considered as “oriental, non-dualistic, holistic and has unity between the subject and the object”. It is true on so many ways. Just observing the way our people act and build their houses are fitting cases. A Filipino identity is present even if one goes abroad; a habit that every Filipino will carry whenever he goes – the Filipino mode of thinking. A mode of thinking is a desirable element to have a rich culture and country; every country might as well have it but differs in their own notions or form. It may not apply to everyone due to the globalization, but a hint or two would still pass if there are people with that mode of thinking around that person. To give out examples of this Filipino mode of thinking, a lot can be stated. Two eminent cases are the tattooing art in the country and our “kamay-kamayan” eating or the buddlefeast.…
