Applied Behavioral Analysis
Conversely, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) was developed by B.F. Skinner and is a science devoted to the understanding and improvement of human behavior (Cooper, Heron, & Heward 2007, p. 3). Skinner reasoned that operant behaviors are influenced by stimulus changes that have followed the behavior in the past and used the basic principles of operant behavior to develop the empirical foundation for applied behavioral analysis (Cooper et al., 2007, p. 10. Applied Behavioral Analysis postulates a functional approach to understanding the client’s problems and addresses them by changing antecedents and consequences using the ABC model (Corey, 2013). It has been proven effective in improving the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
