Air Pollution Chart
After reviewing Ch. 8 and 9 of your text, complete the following table, and then respond to the questions that follow:
Issue
Sources
Health/Environmental Effects
Carbon dioxide (CO2)
Combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gas in power plants, automobiles and industrial facilities.
Reduces bloods ability to transport oxygen; headaches and fatigue, mental impairment or death at high levels.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
Human made organic compounds containing chlorine and fluorine
Attack the stratospheric ozone layer which may cause excessive exposures to UV radiation. This may increase cataracts and weaken the immune system and cause skin cancer. It may also disrupt the eco system. …show more content…
Provide one key solution to help either reduce the effects or recover from the effects of the selected issue.
The atmospheric issue that I chose was global warming. The air pollutants that combine and contribute to this issue are Chlorofluorocarbons, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide. They accumulate in the air as a result of human activity. The effects of global warming can affect our wildlife. If we continue to have severe weather, we will have more heat related deaths. The dirty air could cause more cases of asthma and allergies. Some things that can be done to fight global warming are purchasing energy efficient vehicles. Try to get the least polluting vehicle. Try to drive less. People can carpool or maybe take public transportation. Purchasing energy efficient appliances. In conclusion , if people would understand that this is an extremely important issue I think that they would take the necessary steps to avoid this issue from going any further and ultimately damaging the environment. I personally think that this should start at the school level. There needs to be increases
