Fireproof

At the movie fireproof, they’re two main characters Caleb and Catherine that take us on a journey on what their marriage is like. At the end of the movie we learn a very important lesson about what marriage is truly about. At the beginning of the movie Catherine and Caleb are struggling with their relationship. While talking to Michael, Caleb expresses that he isn’t receiving the respect he deserves as a husband from Catherine. He also feels like there’s no communication she just nags at him continuously. Michael did a really good job of listening and giving him advice. Michael suggests that he should go to marriage counseling, because he was once in the same predicament with his wife and that really helped. Catherine expresses to her friends that she feels unappreciated. She also feels that Caleb is very insensitive to her feelings. Catherine’s friends are extremely supportive and basically advise her to leave Caleb. A few of the problems Caleb and Catherine struggle through in their relationship is lack of sex and Caleb watching pornography due to it. It probably makes Catherine feels like she’s not enough for him as a woman or she isn’t want he wants. We also see slight infidelity and temptation in the movie with Catherine. Catherine begins to be romanced by Doctor Gavin Keller and falls for him. The twist behind this is that Doctor Gavin is also married. We witness pride when they both refuse to work on their marriage at the beginning. We also witness pride when Caleb first began doing grand gestures for Catherine and she refused to take them and believe there was an ulterior motive behind it. We see the bitterness in their marriage in how they screamed and bickered with each other, the love was gone. We also see lots of gossip between Catherine’s friends about her marriage.
There’s a big difference in how Michael and Caleb view marriage vows at the beginning of the movie.

From the beginning of the play when we see Catherine in a bike riding around the neighborhood, to scenes like her in the bedroom with Hal. The movie creates suspense when Hal is figuring out if Catherine truly wrote the proof, it drags on the scenes and flashing back to the pass a couple times to confuse the readers. Throughout the scenes the viewers could possibly be thinking was Catherine really lying? Could she be really capable of writing this proof? The movie flashes back to when her father, Robert is eagerly telling her about a proof he has been working on, but the viewers don’t end up seeing it. The movie tries so hard to characterize Catherine as a crazy and emotional woman who might be capable of stealing a brilliant work from her own father, but then in the end it reveals that Catherine was truly the person who wrote the proof. It makes the viewers guilty for even thinking that she couldn’t be as intelligent as her father.…

The author uses her two main characters Joe and Missie May to show the belief of marriage permanence. The Author uses the belief in marriage permanence to keep her main characters in a marriage jeopardized by a foolish decision. Marriage is more than just simply saying I do. In Marriage God makes man and woman one. God speaks about making man and woman one when he stated “And did not he make one ? Yet had he residue of the spirit. And wherefore one ? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth’’(Malachi 2:15). Dating back to biblical times it was believed that a man and wife should never divorce. It was never god's intention for man and wife to separate.God says “he hateth putting away:for one covereth violence with his garment’’(Malachi 2:16). Not only does God not approve of divorce, but divorcing one's wife removes the husband's fellowship with God. The belief of not divorcing one's wife is clearly shown in “The Gilded Six- Bits”.…

The scene were they were both fighting at the beginning reminded me of my parents. When I was little and when my parents were still together my parents used to argue constantly. It seems like everywhere I turned they were bumping heads or every time I talked to one of them, they would say something rude about each other. They seemed completely incompatible. In the movie, Caleb and his wife would constantly fight and argue. They would get extremely loud with one another. The wife was blaming him of never being home, always being lazy, and always saving money for a boat (which his wife thought was a very stupid idea). Caleb, her husband, always complained to her about her always getting on his case. He also complained to her how he felt like he always felt like a…

The play The Taming of the Shrew is about society and deception. Two wealthy women are awaiting a marriage that would not happen unless Katherine, the older of the two and a shrew got married first. As the men of padua lie about who they are in order to woo the beautiful Bianca, Petruchio marries Katherine in attempt to tame the untamable as many would claim. The movie 10 Things I Hate About You was about two sisters who were polar opposites. Bianca was popular and everyone wanted to be in her life whereas Kate was a “shrew” and everyone wanted to stay as far away as possible. Cameron who was in love with bianca desperately needed to take her on a date but that was only possible is her sister Kate also had a date. So he paid the stud Patrick to take her on a date and Patrick ultimately fell in love with her. Character roles in movie and books are often not translated correctly. The relationship between Katherine and Petruchio, and Katherine and Patrick were very contrastive between the movie and the play. In the play, Petruchio yearned for money and the glory of being able to tame her, while in the movie, Patrick wanted real love. In the 16th century, marriage didn’t focus on love; it focused on involuntary gain whereas today marriage is about the genuine relationship.…

Before Henry’s leave from the war, the priest in their house insisted that Henry travel and visit his hometown of Abruzzi. The priest said, “There is good hunting. You would like the people and though it is cold it is clear and dry. You could stay with my family. My mother is a famous hunter.” Instead, Henry traveled to cities with not much meaning but filled with clubs, bars and whorehouses. After Henry visits these towns, he contemplates his decision to not visit the priest’s hometown Abruzzi. He knows in the future he will regret his decision because the places he visited did not have much meaning but for self pleasure. Abruzzi may have led Henry to discover explanations and enlightenment for his purpose on earth and his connection with people. This shows Henry does not yet have his own self understanding and connection with his purpose to the world around him. Also, after Henry returns from his leave, he meets his future love, Catherine Barkley. The meeting between Henry and Catherine reveals Henry’s low level of maturity and thought compared to Catherine. While discussing the war, Henry states to Catherine, “Lets just drop the war.” Catherine then replies, “There’s no place to drop it.” Due to Catherine’s past loss of her fiancée, she know that the war can not just simply be dropped, and she knows that it will affect anyone who has any part of themselves…
