Every year remarkable breakthroughs in medicine are occurring and we can give thanks to animal testing for being the reason for many of them. Animal testing can be essential to providing important information needed to move forward with experiments and new medicine. While some believe that animal testing is wrong, it is necessary, as long as the animals are treated with care, because it provides beneficial insight into humans, and it could lead to cures for certain illnesses. Medical testing on animals provides valuable insight for humans. Studies have shown that, “some of their bodily systems mimic those of humans” (Evans, Kim Masters). According to an article written by the Journal of the American Medical Association that Damon Linker quotes in his article, “Rights for Rodents”, “Genetic research promises to bring new therapies to alleviate human suffering from the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, Parkinson's disease and other neurological diseases, and virtually all other human and animal diseases” (Linker, Damon). The future of animal testing could bring about many amazing remedies and cures to diseases. Animal testing has already been the cause of some incredible scientific research, and the continuation of it could lead to other crucial medical advancements. Some say that animal testing is morally wrong. That it should not be continued because it causes unnecessary harm to animals. However, laws were passed so that, “Procedures must ‘avoid or minimize discomfort, distress, and pain to the animals”(Evans, Kim Masters). In spite of these laws, people are still ambivalent about the moral aspect of animal testing, but these laws were passed for just that: to prevent extreme harm to the animals undergoing medical procedures and make sure it is morally acceptable. Despite many believing that animal testing is wrong, testing on animals is beneficial and necessary for medical and scientific research.
