Egyptian Food and Recipes Imagine you started drinking beer and even slightly alcoholic foods at the age of four.
The ancient Egyptians used ingredients native to their environment such as plants and alcohol to create natural and yummy foods and recipes. In the article, “Eat Like An Egyptian,” by Carolyn B. Heller she identifies Egyptian food/beverages and their backgrounds. This resource provides many different types of Egyptian food and drink some even alcoholic. In the book,“Food and Cooking in Ancient Egypt,” by Clive Gifford he identifies many different recipes. This book provides many unique and interesting recipes that come from nature in Ancient Egypt. In the website, “Africa Guide,” by Phil Jeffries he describes recipes and their

The Egyptians had many different types of foods for many different purposes and made them in very interesting quality ways. For instance in the article, “Eat like an Egyptian” Heller uses karkade tea made with hibiscus flowers as an example because according to her “ flowers of the hibiscus are sorted by quality by Egyptian women before making the tea. ” This proves that they made things native to their village and had them sorted by classes and quality. Also Heller talks about how they would leave a mixture of ingredients in the sun to ferment for beer like leafs, some of the beer would be drunk and some of it would be taken into the rich or wealthy tombs or anybody else who could afford it. This proves that the Egyptians had multiple purposes for food and drink. Another thing Heller said was that they used dates and figs fresh from the plants to make foods or just to eat plain. According to the website, “Africa Guide” a very popular dish that they served was simply bread sometimes with honey on the side. This is saying that one of the Egyptians very popular dishes is bread because since they lived near the Nile river every time it flooded it would leave behind fertile soil called silt which they took advantage over and planted lots of wheat. Another very popular dish is the ful medames sometimes eaten at both breakfast and dinner. This is talking about how ful medames was very popular because it was eaten daily. A custom they had when eating was sitting on red mats and eating with their fingers. This proves that the Egyptians had customs that they would follow when consuming foods.
