Analysis Of The Story 'The Lady Or The Tiger' By Frank Stockton
Love is a dangerous thing. In the story “The Lady or the Tiger” by Frank Stockton, a princess must make a challenging decision that will determines her lover’s fate. When a man is put on trial for loving the princess, he relies on her to decide if he gets to live and get married, or get mauled by a tiger. The princess will choose the tiger. Within this story, the royal family is given distinguishing traits that explain why the princess would choose death upon her lover. Because she is the daughter of a “semi-barbaric king” (Stockton 2), the thought of her companion getting eaten by a tiger might be more accepting than losing him to another woman. The princess’s uncivilized mind would overrule the appropriate decision, and choose the tiger.
