As a captain, I need to be a leader for my teammates both on and off the court. What makes this year special is that most of our members are new to the team. Therefore, we all start from the same level, we practice and improve together as a team. As I mentioned, this is a completely brand new team. I am not looking for any place, but I do hope that the team can understand the importance of teamwork and remember to communicate on the court. Most importantly, I hope they can always be positive and cheer for each other at all time. In fact, losing a game doesn't mean it's the end of the world. It is simply a chance to improve yourself, every failure lets you discover your strengths and weaknesses. From that, it offers you an opportunity to work on them. So, I do hope the best for my team as I am excited to see how they will play in the tournament. Having been on the team for four years now, I would say I am the most experienced player on the team. I believe that I am well aware of the flow throughout the tournament. This can ultimately help me to give them pep talks before and during games. This can motivate the team to success as well as help them out of a troubled frame of mind. No matter how contentious the game, I will always cheer for them and support them.” said girls team captain Amity …show more content…

In this paper I will describe the head to toe mechanics of what a normal, athletic volleyball block consists of. This movement may seem simple when watching a player perform it on the court; however it is a very complex muscular movement. There will be three phases I will explain in this movement. First the athletic position or “start phase”, next the jumping motion or “active phase” and finally will be the landing known as the “ending phase”. I will be describing every motion, as well as what plane the muscles are moving in and whether the movement is isometric, concentric or eccentric.…

We wanted to keep the team fun, enjoyable also competitive. After all of the practice we have done, I told my teammates that this is our year to rise above obscurity. We wanted to make history when we graduate from our school and that’s why we worked hard to win. When I became a junior, I also became the captain for that sport as well, when the season started we won a few meets and then we went to district meets. We won district in an awesome way, all of us were in a row from first until fourth. The whole other teams were shocked however we was not because we believed we could win it. When Track started we won a couple of meets as well, we dominating the sport. It was when we won many meets we were becoming famous in our school and other places as well.…

We changed everything we could in two months and went to World Finals with a more serious and competitive mindset than ever before. We were driven by the feeling that we had fallen short at State Finals, which ultimately allowed us to place sixth in the entire world. We faced teams from countries all over the world; ironically, the team we were most concerned about was the one from our own home town, who was not as successful at World Finals. Although coming in behind a rival team may not seem like failure to some, it provided me with a very real life lesson; I learned that when you are beaten, you have two options: give up or push yourself…

Regardless of the cliques, you always make sure everyone is included in a fair way, even if that means taking a spot you’d rather not have just so that somebody has a spot at all. You make the team fair by ignoring how high of a level someone is on world cup and focusing on who is actually trying to do their best. You’re always putting a smile on someone's face with your down to earth, funny personality. You balance coaching a peewee team, being captain, and high school/college so well that you make it look easy, you prove that it can be managed. You’re always trying to make this team fun and you have no idea how awesome that is for all the girls afraid to speak up.This team is losing a truly amazing teammate, friends, and captain. I hope that next year's seniors will follow in your footsteps in everything that you do. Thank you for being one of the only people who made me feel welcome on my first…
