Analysis Of Bilbo's Quotes From The Hobbit '
I choose this quote because it shows how Gandalf is perceived from the hobbits. I think Bilbo’s opinion will change if he decides to go on this quest and I hope he has a better opinion of Gandalf and adventures. I think this quote shows that Gandalf has been out of the radar with the last line with Bilbo saying “I had no idea you were still in the business” which I interpret that Gandalf has been away. Maybe on a big quest?
This quote came from Thorin while talking about the quest. Thorin is very serious and businesslike with him taking the lead. Thorin is explaining the quest and how they can all die besides Gandalf. I think this quote is important because it is explaining the quest.

Bilbo seems not to be the smartest at times and can blinded by helping his comrades. Bilbo seems to be very loyal to all the dwarves although he has just met them.

During the end of the day, the dwarves tell Bilbo to go investigate a light. The light ended up being a fire made by trolls. Bilbo tries stealing some of the trolls items but was caught and soon every dwarf was caught. The dwarves and Bilbo are saved by Gandalf, with him tricking the trolls to wait until morning to cook the dwarves and Bilbo. Since trolls can be outside during the sun is out, the trolls had to go take shelter.

This quote is important because it shows a difference betweens Bilbo’s preference about adventures. At first, Bilbo didn’t want anything to do with adventures but now he is open to them.
I choose this quote because it shows that Bilbo is already facing hardships and is getting out of his comfort zone with the adventure, and it is only the first day.

After they come away from the giants, they meet two of Elrond’s people. They tell them about the giants when suddenly Bilbo has a feeling he is wanted back. This might foreshadow a big event in the next

By the end of this expedition, he will have changed almost everything about him and how he lives everyday life. At the beginning of the story, Bilbo was kind, but was also extremely contempt with his way of life. He wanted nothing more than to “ eat meals six times a day” (Tolkien 5). But by the end of the expedition he had learned to make it through with what he has; and to also put himself in danger for the sake of others “killing of the giant spider, all alone by himself in the dark”( Tolkien 135). By defeating the giant spider he showed to himself and others that he is willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others. Therefore showing that the expedition in its entirety has changed him…

In Chapter 9, Bilbo’s cleverness is shown. Bilbo, yet again, saves the dwarves from trouble. In a short amount of time, Bilbo came up with a plan to rescue his friends from the woodelves. Without his cleverness, he wouldn’t have saved his friends and the story would be different because they wouldn’t have gone to Lake Town. You can see this when the author says, “When he heard this Bilbo was all in a flutter, for he saw that luck was with him and he had a chance at once to try his desperate plan.” And then later says, “They had escaped the dungeons, and were through the wood.” These quotes show how Bilbo was desperate to try out his plan and at the end, it turned out to be really successful. Bilbo could not have thought of this plan without his cleverness, if it weren’t for that, he would’ve never saved the dwarves.…

Throughout the whole movie the communication was maintained in certain ways, Gandalf always had hope on Bilbo because he knew him since a young age. As mention before about the mark on Bilbo’s door; Gandalf set it there because he needed to have the conference with the dwarves about the adventure. This communication was maintained by all the dwarves showing at Bilbo’s front door, then making a big feast leaving Bilbo with scrapes of food. Once everyone was done, Thorin the main Dwarf showed up late explaining what he had offered to the hobbit and the rest that will join the journey. When Bilbo and Gollum where playing riddles it was getting tougher and tougher for the hobbit to win and find the way out from the cave. He knew that only one question could make him winner, the question was “What I’ve got in my pocket.” Therefore the slimy creature gave up, and turned into a ferocious…

He thinks he's 100% Baggins, so he hears that the dwarves don't want a scared little hobbit, so Bilbo knows it will help them at least wanting to get what is rightfully theirs, so he says to himself "I am not 1%, not 25%, not 75%, but 100% Took". And he has lots books, reading lots of stories about legends. He also serves all his food to barbaric dwarves so they can leave soon. He just wants to be alone again, so that is what fuels him to complete the mission.…

“You are not the hobbit you once were “, shapes the transformation of the protagonist Bilbo Baggins. In the novel The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins character grows throughout the novel “The Hobbit”. In the beginning he is a shy, peaceful and self-absorbed hobbit who stayed nowhere but his hobbit hole, that also loves routine, then he has an unexpected surprise visit by a wizard named Gandalf who offers Bilbo a chance to go on an adventure. Bilbo ends up saving the party from many dangerous situations at first he finds hard to believe. Bilbo has no idea what’s ahead of him, however, the end of this novel Bilbo is a brave warrior whose eyes have been opened to the world outside of the Shire, a homeland of the hobbits. At the end of this story, Bilbo is a changed hobbit. Therefore I agree with the quote from Gandalf “You are not the hobbit you once were”.…

In the beginning Bilbo is timid, comfortable, and complacent in his secure little hole at Bag End. When Gandalf talks him into embarking on the quest with Thorin’s dwarves, Bilbo becomes so frightened that he faints. As the novel continues Bilbo triumphs over dangers and adversaries, realizing he had courage and strength within him the whole time. Bilbo overcomes many challenges like Confronting the trolls, escaping with Gollum’s ring, slaying the spider, rescuing the dwarves in Mirkwood, and speaking face-to-face with the great dragon Smaug, all of this is proving he is a true hero. Bilbo realizing that he is indeed a hero is a main theme of The…

In J.R.R Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’, the protagonist Bilbo Baggins embarks on a journey of discovery through the world outside his insular home that leads to a renewed perception of himself and others at the conclusion of the story. Much like in ‘Mending Wall’, Baggins is a member of an insular community, where traditions are strongly held, “We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures”. This ongoing thought process is similar to the opposing neighbour, leading to Bilbo’s rejection of the world outside his home of the Shire. Similarly to ‘Stopping by Woods…’ Bilbo faces a chance to leave, “As they sang the Hobbit fell in love……

Bilbo has now become a distinct and enriched version of himself. Even though Bilbo did heroic actions they did not extensively change who Bilbo was in the beginning of the book. Bilbo now still has some of his tookish qualities but he is no longer arrogant nor cauchy. Bilbo never really acknowledged his special qualities until he found the ring. When these qualities came into play he stayed humbled. He never bragged about how special he has become. “If you have a pipe about you sit down and have a fill of mine! There's no hurry, we have all the day before of us!” Restating this quote from chapter 1 on page 4 explains the kind of life Bilbo lived before he contributed with experiences with the ring. “My dear Bard!” Squeaked Bilbo. “Don't be so hasty! I never met such suspicious folk! I am merely trying to avoid trouble for all concerned.” This quote from chapter 6 on page 273 shows how Bilbo has elaborated from the beginning of the book because Bilbo is now no longer looking for trouble. He is looking at the positive and what he can do better. He is trying to make change happen. Although some people may argue that Bilbo is not making a difference and he is not becoming a new and better person than he used to…

Everyone has a chapter in their life they don't read aloud, maybe it's just dark and too deep to get into. We all have a dark side, even the heros and the good guys. In fact there's this hero, Bilbo, who has a dark side of his own. There are many protagonists and antagonists in The Hobbit, but let's face it, the only real problem and solution is the main character, Bilbo himself. Bilbo is not only the main character in The Hobbit, but also is his own protagonist and antagonist. Throughout the book, there are multiple ways all these sides of Bilbo are shown; the attack from the spiders, escaping the goblins, and helping the dwarves. All of these examples, include one important item, the magical ring.…

Bilbo was like any normal hobbit. He always followed a routine such as a meal in the morning ,then his daily smoke, another meal, cleaning up, once again another meal, and finally it would be time for bed. In support of this, in the novel, it states how Bilbo kept a secret from Thorin of the Arkenstone he had stolen. He sneakily traded with Bard, knowing that Thorin was not a fan of sharing gold, which Bilbo felt that him and the dwarves deserved. He did not know the Battle of Five Armies would become a result of his sly moves (Tolkien). This highlights how Bilbo made a sacrifice and put his friendship on the line with this betrayal and lie. Bilbo develops as a hero because he believes of the greater good and depends on his own morals, trying his best to avoid conflict. This time, instead of relying on his usual group, like he would have, he ignores the view of others and stands up for himself and his morals. Middle Earth was impacted by his actions since Bilbo now uses his traits of being a burglar in hand and changes himself with strategies. Overall, Baggins was in a difficult position, but the way he was able to escape shows how he has improved from old, scared, Hobbit-Hole Bilbo to a one of a kind…

A: Gandalf plays a huge role in the story, as we all know, but a major part of his role is how much like a father he acts to Bilbo as well as the rest of the company. He guides them for much of their journey, teaching them tips and tricks as well as how to use their brains a little bit to get them out of trouble. This is much how a father might raise his child, teaching them how and or when to use different skills and knowledge, and how to get themselves out of trouble when they have to do it.…
