Kennan said “Heroism is endurance for one moment more”.Bilbo Baggins fought one more time every time he finished an act of bravery from fighting trolls to stealing a treasure from Smaug’s horde. He was a hero in his own way and with that said Bilbo himself turned into a heroic person and in many eyes a hero of great

By the end of this expedition, he will have changed almost everything about him and how he lives everyday life. At the beginning of the story, Bilbo was kind, but was also extremely contempt with his way of life. He wanted nothing more than to “ eat meals six times a day” (Tolkien 5). But by the end of the expedition he had learned to make it through with what he has; and to also put himself in danger for the sake of others “killing of the giant spider, all alone by himself in the dark”( Tolkien 135). A hero is someone who is admired for their brave actions, the courage they show, and is a leader. In J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, The Hobbit, it shows a young hobbit who discovers the ups and downs to an adventure. From goblins, to elves, to spiders, to many other creatures. Bilbo Baggins went through a lot. Nearly getting killed for one thing; the arkenstone. He defiantly shows that a hero can be small and weak, and that anything can be achieved. It is clear that Bilbo Baggins is a hero at the end of the novel. This is because he saves the company from many disasters, he confronts the great dragon Smaug, and is always there for the company.…

When he reached the fire, he saw it was three very large persons sitting around a very large fire of beech-logs, they were trolls. At this point Bilbo had the chance to have gone back quietly and warned his friends about the trolls but he felt the need to do a bit of good quick burgling to impress the dwarves. “He wished himself a hundred miles away-yet somehow he could not go straight back to Thorin and Company emptyhanded.” But not all ended well for poor Mr. Baggins’ as it took Gandalf to save Bilbo and the dwarves from the…

In the beginning Bilbo is timid, comfortable, and complacent in his secure little hole at Bag End. When Gandalf talks him into embarking on the quest with Thorin’s dwarves, Bilbo becomes so frightened that he faints. As the novel continues Bilbo triumphs over dangers and adversaries, realizing he had courage and strength within him the whole time. Comfort seaming and content. All Bilbo wanted to do was eat, drink, and smoke in his adequate wizened whole underhill. But this lifestyle did not last much longer due to Gandalf, the Journey, and the Ring. In chapter 1 on page 4 Bilbo stated “if you have a pipe about you, sit down and have a fill of mine! Shortly thereafter his was arguably forced into an adventure with a pack of dwarves along with a wizard. Throughout this entire journey, Bilbo becomes more and more courageous and even went so far as to meet with leaders of an opposing army and say “This is the Arkenstone of Thrain… I give it to you. It will aid you in your bargaining. ”(271) This is showing that despite him possibly risking capture or death, he still has enough courage to help end a needless war between his group’s army and the elven-human’s army.…

I like your definition of Bilbo being brave, noble, and loyal as a hero should be. He certainly proves this through his perseverance to find the treasures that are located within the Lonely Mountain. Also, your example of Bilbo refusing to fight Gollum due to an unfair fight is an interesting perspective. He surely shows nobility by not taking advantage of his invisibility, especially because Gollum was left without a weapon.…

Often epic tales feature a story with a miraculous hero who dies in battle or when treasure is attained, but in Bilbo’s case I wouldn’t say he became a hero. Although he was faced with many dangers and is forced to go outside of his comfort zone and build up the confidence to save him comrades, he still returns to Rivendell an untried hero as he was when he left for his adventure. In contradiction, at the beginning of the book, Bilbo lives in his own little world in the Shire with his small hobbit home. But by the end of the book, he has gained an understanding of the world around him, and a sense of adventure, along with courage, bravery, and loyalty. Although he didn’t end the story as a hero, he gained several personal values along the way.…

The first way Bilbo overcomes evil is by luck. For example, when Bilbo is caught by the goblins and he awakens from his fall he finds a ring. Now this ring was no ordinary ring for it was a magical one that could turn a person invisible and without it the story might have been very different. This is because if Bilbo did not have it, then he would never have been able to escape from the evil creature Gollum and inturn escape from the hell which was the home of the evil and nasty goblins. Another time luck saved Bilbo and his friends, was when Bilbo and company were on the mountain and were looking for the hidden door that would lead them right to Smaug and the treasure. Here luck played a big part because if Bilbo had never happened to find the door then all the trouble that Bilbo and his friends had already gone through would have been for nothing.…
