Analysis Of A Memoir: Julio
Julio, I enjoyed reading your memoir. I definitely learned a lot about you from the part you have finished. I look forward to seeing where you are going with the piece. As you finish, keep in mind the end goal of what you want the reader to leave with after finishing the memoir. What are you trying to teach us about your life? When first reading the line “I honestly do not know in what moment my sister was taken from my hands” I thought that you were speaking figuratively and this was your way of telling us that she had died. After continuing, I realized that you actually meant her being physically taken from your arms. Maybe consider rewording so that we know you mean literally not being sure when the paramedics took her from your arms to

It was a Wednesday morning that I'll never forget. I had woken up at 3 in the morning because I had to be at a park for a physical fitness test. The test was not until 6 but because I was taking the bus, I had to make sure I was out of bed and out of the house early in the morning. The first few minutes of my commute were peaceful; there was light rain, birds chirping, the insect's low buzzing in the distance. It was just a normal morning. After I had gotten on the 85 bus that goes down Central to Jefferson Park I was a little groggy so I rested up against the heating compartment. The little designated area where you push a button and the heat comes on during the winter months so that commuters are not stuck out in the cold for too…

In part one of Enrique Journey, what struck me the most about his experiences so far is him being without his mother. I love my mother and I can only imagine not being without her for a long time. Reading part one of this book, I felt sad for Enrique and his oldest sister because they were so sad and emotional about their mother leaving. What surprise me the most about part one was when Enrique’s dad left him for his girlfriend and he didn’t want Erique to go with him. Enrique father was so wrong to me and it was sad that he didn’t give Erique the love he needed. It was also sad to me that Lourdes was a struggling when got to the U.S and it was hard for her to make ends meet. Lourdes knows that Enrique needed her and miss her but she is at…

As I heard Montresor calling my name I stayed silent in the pitch black darkness of this trap.Still yearning for the Amontillado that I was deprived and tricked into thinking was in this cellar I waited until I thought he was far long gone into the chambers I started to look around as my eyes started to adjust to the darkness of the cellar in which I was fettered.I saw a key it was far out of my reach but if I stretched as far as I could I would be able to reach it.Since Montresor only put the chain around my waist my leg were free to roam as far as the could possibly go.I managed with great struggle to pick the key up with my feet and then my hands and I successfully unlocked the chain from my waist and was as free as a trapped man could…

At the beginning of the year it felt like I would have never been able to write any paper that was more than two pages long, it just seemed impossible, but for the research paper I actually had to stop myself from going off and writing a twelve page paper. I will admit and say that English is not my strong suit, in fact it is probably one of my more difficult classes. But just because it is difficult does not mean I don’t like it. I like looking for topics that interest me and still fit in with the guidelines, I like getting involved in the paper and researching the topic until it feels like my head is about to explode. I never saw any of that coming, I thought that I was going to have to go through English and just pray…

I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…

What is a legacy? Lin Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton described it as “planting seeds in a garden you never get to see”. In a similar way, the Broadway musical, In The Heights, sings about continuing what is passed down to you because one day it may be gone. One song in particular titled, “Paciencia y Fe” inspires me to work as hard as I can just like Abuela Claudia did when she immigrated from Cuba. The Broadway hits’ harmonies and melodies have instilled in me a sense of hope for the future, where I can continue a family legacy.…

Language has played a big role in making my life successful. As senior year was ending I had a major life changing decision. I was unsure whether to pursue my passion of baseball in California, or to hang up my cleats for the last time on a high note. Although this was not a life or death decision, It was still a decision that was still near and dear to my heart. After going to several people for help and many sleepless nights, I still felt helpless. I finally came to the conclusion after hearing "The Babe" in the movie Sandlot tell Benny Rodriguez, "Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes." that’s when I decide…

“When I was ten years old, my brother Miguel came back from the U.S. to visit us. When he was ready to leave, he told my mom, ‘Hey, are you going to let Kiko (which was my nickname) come to the U.S., so he can go to school and have an opportunity?’ and my mom turned to me and said, ‘Do you want to go with him?’ Then I looked at her and replied, ‘Do you want me to go?’ and she nodded in approval, so I went into the house, got a backpack, and put three pants, three shirts, and a few other things in there because I didn’t have many belongings. I then went back outside, jumped into the car, and left my mom. I didn’t see my mom again until I was a senior in high school, and a lot took place during those years” (Castellanos).…

This is a tribute to a man that has always been and will always be my mentor. His name is Alan Dale Jacobson, he is my father. He is not technically my father by blood, but he is by far the best father I could have ever asked for. I have known him my entire life as Uncle Al until I was 13 and he married my mother and our relationship went to a whole new level. He taught me many things like pride, honesty, to put my family above all things, and how to be an honorable man.…
