I am pleased to give you my research report you requested on an analysis of the benefits and drawbacks to teeth whitening and methods of whitening teeth. Researching this topic has been interesting, especially the feedback I acquired through a survey I administered to several of my family and friends on Facebook. The findings of this report will be helpful in educating the girls involved in the Miss Utah pageant to realize the effects that teeth bleaching.

I had several friends and family respond to my survey. Nearly all of them have used whitening procedures, and received pain or sensitivity when using them. The findings show that although the appearance of white teeth is beneficial, the affects can painful.

While doing my research, I found several articles written within the last three years, especially since at-home treatments have become more advanced and available to the public. I found articles with good information on the considerations to teeth whitening, and the different kind of products that are used.

Based on this report, people who use whitening procedures, should take extreme caution when using the products. I appreciate the opportunity to prepare this report for you. Please check with me if you have any questions.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In today’s world, cosmetic surgery and treatments have become extremely popular. Teeth whitening or bleaching is one of those treatments. Men, woman, and even young children have turned to teeth whitening procedures to enhance their appearance and boost their confidence. To analyze whether the benefits exceed the drawbacks, Susan D. Painter, Pageant director, authorized this research report.

The purpose of this report is to analyze the benefits and drawbacks to teeth whitening and methods of whitening teeth. Specifically, the following questions are answered:

1. What are the benefits and drawbacks of teeth whitening? 2. What are methods used for whitening teeth?

The findings of this report come from secondary periodical sources and from the results of a survey administered to 20 people on Facebook.

Based on the finding of this report, the following conclusions have been made: 1. Studies show that people with brighter whiter teeth have more self confidence, are more likely to receive job positions, and have an overall better life. 2. Teeth whitening procedures may be done at home by yourself or by your dentist. 3. Peroxide compounds, including carbamide peroxide, H2O2, sodium perborate, and calcium peroxide are active ingredients, and a high percent of H2O2 may be harmful. 4.
