My essay will be about the tragedy of Selena Quintanilla, Selena was a famous Mexican/American singer and song writer. Selena Quintanilla-Perez was born in Lake Jackson, Texas on April 16. Selena's brother, Abraham Quintanilla and Selena's sister Suzette were little kids when Selena was born. Abraham always had a passion for music, In the late 50's and early 60's he was part of the group Los Dinos. When his children were very young, he began to teach them an instrument, “A.B.” the bass and Suzette the drums. Suzette at first HATED the idea of playing the drums. When Selena was just 3 years old, she demanded to know why her father was leaving her out of the music. Abraham simply said she was too young. Right then Selena showed him she was not too young, she showed him her own instrument, her voice. She sang Blue Moon, Abraham couldn't believe what a beautiful sound he heard. By the time Selena was 6, she was already singing like a pro in English and in Spanish, even though she didn't speak the language, alongside her brother, sister, and father. When Selena was 9, her father started the group Selena Y Los Dinos. The group's first performances were in Papagallos, the Quintanilla family's restaurant opened in 1980. Everyone who saw her, even at that young age, knew she was going to be a star someday. Soon the restaurant fell and the Quintanilla family went bankrupt, they were out on the streets without a roof over their head. The family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where they piled into an old bus with all their musical equipment. They played everywhere they could, on streets, at weddings. Soon all the hard work paid off, Selena even said in some interviews that when she first started playing it was to put food on the table. Selena recorded her first album in 1984 under the…

Lázaro Cárdenas del Río (May 21, 1895 – October 19, 1970) was President of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. From Cárdenas plebian roots, in the lower-middle class he eked out a substantial, moving and largely successful leadership role in a reformative Mexico. Born in the village of Jiquilpan, Michoacán, Cárdenas supported his widowed mother and seven younger siblings from the age of sixteen. His many professional pursuits included a tax collector, a printer’s devil (apprentice to a printer) and a jail keeper, all by the age of eighteen. Cárdenas had very little formal education, leaving school at eleven to help support his family he often sought opportunities to further his own knowledge, as can be seen by his choices of profession before the age of eighteen, additionally Lázaro Cárdenas was a consummate student of history seeking to understand and learn about all the national and international historical underpinnings of Mexico and the world. When Cárdenas was young he sought to become a teacher but was fouled in his plan by being drawn fully into the politics and military of Mexico, at a time when Mexico was in serious transition. (Wikipedia 2009, “Lázaro Cárdenas”) The Mexican Revolution drew Cárdenas, as it did many others into service of the new government, after Victoriano Huerta overthrew the former President Francisco Madero. Cárdenas was a supporter of Plutarco Elías Calles as the new president of Mexico and was rewarded, after his successful bid, for appointment as the governor of his home province, Michoacán in 1928. (Fallow 2001, 11)…

These children which had a mixture of European and Native Indian were called Mestizos, Criollos were those children who were of pure Spanish descendant but born in El Salvador. Eventually El Salvador was taken by Mestizos and Criollos and ruled by them. Native Indians were starting to get oppressed by this increasing population of Criollos and Mestizos and it has not stopped since. The first rebellion they had was in 1832 lead by an Indigenous leader Anastasio Aquino because they didn’t have enough land in order to grow their crops.
