The way this phrase relates to the book All Over but the Shoutin’ is by showing that what the authors father had done was wrong. The sins of the father in terms of the book shows how he didn’t pass down faith, but instead, passed down addiction and anger to his sons. Mark, the youngest of the sons, never got a chance to get to know his dad, but took in the worst traits from him such as his anger and drinking habits. He was bullheaded too.     In the excerpt from the memoir All Over but the Shoutin’ , the author Rick Bragg highlights the moment when he paid a final visit to his father's deathbed. In the excerpt, Bragg briefly described his childhood, saying his father abandoned his wife and sons, and left them to beg, and scrap for food and money.
