Alcól agus Daoine Óga

Tá alán fadbhanna ag daoine óga sa lá atá inniu ann ach b’fhéidir gurbh iad na cinn is mó ná na fadbhanna a thagann de bharr mí-úsáid a bhaintear as alcól. Tá an-bhéim ag an aclcól i ngach gné dár saol. (in every aspect of our lives)

Bíonn fógraí ar an teilifís beagnach gach deich nóiméad ag insint dúinn go bhfuil buntáistí (advantages) ag baint le alcól. Deirtear linn go mbeimid níos fearúla (more manly) nó níos dathúla má ólaimid an deoch seo nó an deoch siúd. Tá fógraí áirithe dírithe ar chailíní agus fógraí eile dírithe ar bhuachaillí. Bíonn na comhlachtaí móra, cosúil le Heineken nó Carlsberg, ag iarraidh a rá gurb ionann (trying to say that a happy life is the same as) saol sona agus a bheith ag ól Heineken nó Budweiser nó Breezers. Tá an chuid is mó de na hócáidí spóirt urraithe (sponsored) ag comhlachtaí alcólacha. Is bealach é seo ag na comhlachtaí chun daoine óga a mhealladh (to entice young people) chun a bheith fábharach (to be favourable to) leis an deoch áirithe atá i gceist. Aisteach go leor (oddly enough) ní bhaineann na réaltaí móra spóirt mí-úsáid as an alcól cor ar bith. Tóg mar shampla Brian O Driscoll agus David Beckham, ní fheictear iad ag ól agus deireann siad go mbíonn siad an-chúramach nach n-itheann ná nach n-ólann siad an iomarca. (too much)

Bíonn daoine fásta i gcónaí ag rá go mbaineann daoine óga mí-úsáid as alcól. Ach cuimhnigh ar seo, (remember this) ní hiad na daoine óga a bhíonn i gceannas ar na comhlachtaí móra a chaitheann na milliún ag iarraidh daoine óga mhealladh chun níos mó a ól. Tá sé i bhfad ró éasca an milleán (the blame) a chur ar na daoine óga nuair a fheicimid iad ag ól cannaí beorach agus ceirtlís sna páirceanna beagnach gach deireadh seachtaine. Ach caithfear (one must) an cheist a chur. Cá bhfaigheann siad na cannaí? Ceannaíonn siad iad i siopaí mar is cuma leis na daoine gur leo na siopaí faoi tada ach faoin mbrabhús. (profit) Tá siad ag briseadh an dlí chomh maith. Tá a fhios acu go

I went from being a shop owner to being a slave in the Roman the town I lived in. Becoming a slave changed how I viewed life. When I was a shop owner, I had a feeling of accomplishment, but now, I cry myself to sleep as I was constantly in pain. I usually was a slave for a Roman shop owner carrying out the everyday business transactions, but after the Roman city of Rome burned down, I was put in a group of other slaves whose sole purpose was to be unskilled labor for the construction of Domus Aurea or “The Golden House," (Anderson 1997 52) for the Roman emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Drusus Germanicus (Adkins 1994 21) who we normally refer to as “Nero.” Once I was put into this group of slaves, I experienced many beatings and had to do a lot of grueling work (Anderson 1997 124). My main job was to assist another slave who was a bricklayer. I had to haul the bricks up the Palatine hill along with having to carry the cement and bricks up the shaky ladder to another slave who was a bricklayer.…

Shakespeare was a talented writer who wrote about common themes of love, loss, betrayal, loyalty and others of that sort. When Shakespeare wrote the play Julius Caesar he was not really writing about Caesar at all but actually writing about the struggles, internally and externally, of Brutus as he decides to betray his friend for what he believes is for the good of his country. The play is also about the after effects of Brutus’ and the conspirators’ decision and how they attempt to survive with all of Rome calling for their blood. Brutus was a man who was patriotic enough to kill a friend for the good of his country, was a compassionate leader who truly cared for those under his command, and a noble man of birth and moral, even through all the hard times he went through those traits never wavered or changed.…

Based on Amy Tan’s “Mother Tongue” it is evident that language has an affect on our lives. Language defines the type of person I am generally and it has had an affect on my choices as well as my lifestyle. Depending on my friends, family, and others I talk to my choice on language tends to vary. My decisions in life, sometimes, are influenced by the language I use and my surroundings. Language has become my way of seeing life in a different perspective.…

When I am around another person, we share the same experience in variant perspectives. We are products of the same world, yet very different worlds, and I aim to understand that difference. I want to know how and why things are the way they are, focusing on linguistic construct as an influence to human development. Language is entirely freeing and yet restricting, as each language hosts unique expressions, emotions, and traditions, and I want to know of a bigger world than the one I know now.…

In the play on page 22 when Mr. Hector says “Dakin’s a good-looking boy, though somehow sad”Mrs. Lintott replies“You always think they’re sad, Hector, every time. Actually I wouldn’t have said he was sad…”I think the fact that Mrs Lintott says “you always think they’re sad” represents Mr. Hector’s character in someway, from the play we can extract the fact that Mr. Hector is ‘sad’ in general. But what makes this even more meaningful is the fact that he ‘always’ think they’re sad. It is sad on its own or heart-breaking that Mr. Hector thinks that everyone is sad like him. He doesn’t seem to realise that there is another side to life, and that is it possible for people to be happier.…

Tan presents to the readers of the article that the way individuals talk to one another is impacted by their relationships. For example she mentions that the way she communicates with her mother is different to the way she would interact with someone else with stronger English. Tan found herself using sentences such as ‘’Not waste money that way.’’ (Tan, 1990, pg.1) Which highlights that when she’s with family members she uses what she refers to as ‘’broken’’ (Tan, 1990, pg.5) English. This example portrays that the ‘’different’’ (Tan, 1990, pg.5) Englishes are useful in relationships. As individuals we feel a stronger connection when we are able to communicate with someone using the same kind of English as they do, as it enables people to form a stronger relationship. This is powerful tool as it will strengthen relationships between individuals due to the common style of language used.…

Within the formation of postcolonial Latin America, communal indigenous inhabitants were disrupted through political and economic oppression of liberalization. Brooke Larson lays out the varying historical patterns between governments of Latin American elites down to the peasant communities, in the transgression from colonial corporate forms to the multiple approaches of exploitation in emerging economies in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Larson correlates the relations of elites and peasants, molded by geographical, demographical, and sociopolitical differences, to depict the struggles of equalization in a newly colonized society. Through the violent uprisings and transitional movements, Andean peasants voiced their political opinions through resistance and scrutinizing the ideological and cultural characteristics of domination, political validity, and rebellion.…
