Adjustment Letter Memo
The purpose of this memo is to present the process that I went through when writing my adjustment letter for the freshmen orientation in the College of Engineering at The University of Arkansas.
When I was writing my adjustment letter, I had to think of had happened during my engineering freshmen orientation. My freshmen orientation was good and very organized; however, I think we should have talked about some other important topics such as: The basics of college-level academic expectations and how they differ from those of high school; The meaning and centrality of academic honesty; Basics of nutrition and exercise.

On Friday, August 21th, the day of Orientation, my journey began. I was enthusiastic and skittish at the time but also a little sad because i knew my summer had come to an end. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach move around as we getting closer and closer to my future high school. Finally, I had reached my destination LVCP. The first thing that popped out when I stepped foot on campus was seeing the painting in the front of the…

They have no assets other than $1,600,000 in cash savings, and they have no debts. They wish to maintain their current lifestyle during their retirement years. Their current annual living expenses are $120,000. They have no children and they do not wish to bequeath any assets to charity (after their death). Marilyn and David are in excellent health and have a normal life expectancy. They are, however, concerned about the possibility of outliving their retirement income (i.e., longevity risk). They will rely entirely on their cash savings to support themselves financially during their retirement years. Furthermore, they have a strong aversion to risk.…

Starting your freshman year of college is a really, really terrifying moment. You go from being in a place where you are totally comfortable to being in a new place full of new people you have yet to get to know. And for every single freshman, it’s especially harder for any number of personal reasons. When I first got to Williams I often wondered if I really belonged here at all—was I smart enough, talented enough, educated enough? As I got closer to my JAs and my entrymates, I began to overcome my insecurity and learned that I could and did belong at Williams. I want to be a JA because I want to give a group of freshman the same support and confidence that my JAs instilled in me. I want to be able to work with a group of my peers and my…

Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…

I am so happy that I choose to attend a two year program over some of the one year programs, because I could not imagine being ready to enter the work force right now. I have a lot of internal conflicts that still need to be resolved both in my personal and professional life. I need to better embrace the understanding of failure, even if I don’t agree with the term and understand that I am still learning something when I fall flat on my face. I need to insert “NO” into my vocabulary and understand that it is ok to use when I am burnt out or already over committed. I also need to remember that this journey to becoming a professional is not one I should take solo, but with the support of the faculty, cohort, family, friends and past mentors who are all supporting…
