Abrahamic Faiths: Judaism, Christianity, And Islam
The three Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – originated from one man named Abraham, who followed the will of God. They are established on the stories of Abraham’s encounters with God, and the idea that he taught of there being only one God – rather than the polytheistic beliefs that were popular at the time. Abraham is viewed as the first patriarch of Judaism; however, he is also an important figure in Christianity and Islam. With roots that are all connected together in the Middle East, the three religions are very interconnected. However, they each faith is unique through its beliefs and its followers. They have some commonalities between each other – such as their origin stories and their beliefs; but they ultimately believe in unique things. One city is especially significant among all three religions, and is a place of worship for all Abrahamic faiths. For Jews, Jerusalem is considered the holiest place in the world as it is the ancestral homeland for Jews and has special landmarks such as Mount Moriah and the Western Wall. For Christians, not only is Mount Zion and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre located there, but Jerusalem is the location of Jesus’ persecution and death. Lastly, Jerusalem is significant for Muslims because they believe that Muhammad made a pilgrimage to Al-Aqsa Mosque, and it continues to stand today. Although the three Abrahamic religions may be in conflict throughout the rest of the world, in Jerusalem all three faiths are able to worship in peace and unity. The three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – may have originated throughout different time periods; however, they continue to be the most prominent monotheistic religions in the world through their connections in history and similar beliefs.
