A Career In Sports Medicine
Running down the field trying to stop the other team from scoring. I wish I could tell a great and exciting tale of how I tore my ACL, but the true event was anything but. I planted my foot to turn with the wide receiver and pushed off. As soon as I pushed, I heard the dreaded popping noise and crumpled to the ground. No one touched me, I just fell. It is crazy to think that the tearing of one small ligament can keep me from running for seven months. I remember crying, not because of the pain but because I knew I lost two track scholarships to run collegiate track at Columbia University and Prairie View A&M University. In a small part of my brain, I knew what I had done, even though I tried to convince myself otherwise. I had to overcome the challenge of ending my sports dreams and continue my academic endeavors. …show more content…
Tearing my ACL showed me that academics will take me farther in life than any sport. My athletic dreams may be over but I will still continue my passion of sports. My plan is to go to medical school and becoming a physician. I want to be an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine because I have had many knee injuries and surgeries during my sports career in high school. My goal is to become the best orthopedic surgeon in the nation, so professional athletes like LeBron James and Dak Prescott will take advantage of my great services. The road to becoming a practicing doctor is a very demanding one but I believe I have the motivation and ability to overcome challenges to continue my education in

    Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

    I was a junior in high school during basketball season with no plans for college. It was the fourth game of the season with eight seconds to go in the fourth quarter, when I cut down the middle to go up for a shot and ended up on the ground from a player striking the side of my knee. After three trainers and two doctors looked at my knee I got news back that it was an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear, meaning surgery and that I was done with sports until my senior year.
