29 Days Of Leave: Case Study
1. I am requesting 29 days of leave from 23 June-21 July 17, which is outside of the authorized 14 days of leave. This request is due to the following reasons: I arrived to brigade from 96th TC, 3 weeks prior to the departure date for this deployment. Due to time constraints, I wasn’t able to take block leave because I had to complete SRP, store my household goods, and obtain my RFI. I informed my section OIC and NCOIC of my request to take leave pass the 14 authorized days. After farther assessment of personnel, my section leadership cleared and supported my request to take my requested leave days.

This is a special leave request for me to go home for the Mardi Gras holiday. My leave will span Lundi Gras (Monday), Mardi Gras (Tuesday), and Ash Wednesday. This is a holiday season that lasts a whole week in Louisiana and has been observed by my family simply due to religious and traditional reasons. My home is in Austin, Texas and I am of direct Cajun-French Decent. Needless to say, this week is a big week for my family. The reason for me missing three week days is that these are really the most important days in the Mardi Gras season. To add to this, my younger brother is getting confirmed in the Catholic Church on Feb. 20th I am his sponsor which requires me to be there, but flight expenses are $500 more for me to get home. Even further,…

Depending on one’s geographic location and personal economic status, vacations are often regarded as the expected result of hard work or productivity. They typically act as a temporary pause on the stressors or difficult components of life and allow time for either relaxation or adventure. Despite this commonly held understanding, not all countries maintain such a positive opinion. Rather than a blissful escape from monotony, they instead view vacations as nothing more than a pitiful waste of time, energy, and critical resources.…

    Balancing Motherhood

I have to place extreme trust into any person who my son receives care by, with hopes that my son will be returned to me unscathed and unharmed. I struggle ever day with not being there for my son because of the sacrifices that I continue to make. I love every aspect of what my job entails and I love being a mother. My chain of command is aware of my family care plan issue, and has always been there for me to support and assist me in any way that I have needed. Since I do not have a solid support system in place, it is now impossible for me to maintain both responsibilities. It is my responsibility to make sure that my son is taken care of by any means available. I do not believe that being stationed at this command is the reason I cannot comply with my Family Care Plan, however, I do believe that it is the pre-ordained military schedule that has continuously made my Navy life and motherhood so hard to balance. Being involuntarily separated from the Navy has never been a warranted option for me. I have done everything within my means to be able to successfully complete my job as a single parent. I’ve explored other options such as the Navy Reserves, Full Time Support, and Early Release for Education, as well as the Career Intermission Program. I have also spoken with my chain of command, my mentor, and my parents about my struggle to find stable care for my son. I have wanted to be in the Navy since I was six years old. I understand that I have a duty to fulfill my contract, but I will always have an obligation and responsibility to ensure that my son is provided with applicable care, love, and…
