A. Cuban food

1. What are some of the typical Cuban foods?
Some typical foods are tostado , empanadas, pastelitos, croquetas , bocaditos , and various carne.

2. Compare and contrast their cuisine to what you generally eat.
The cuisine would be a small pig, marinated with salt, garlic, and sour orange juice, and then roasted over an open fire, and slowly cooked for several hours.

3. What Cuban food have you tried before? Did you like it? If you have not tried any, what do you think you’d like and why?
I have tried Bocaditos and i liked them because they were small and deleicious . They were more of a finger snack.

B. Cuban pastime

1. What is the favorite Cuban pastime mentioned in this link? What other game is played?
The favorite Cuban pastime is dominoes and they also play chess.

2. Where is Domino Park located?
Domino park is located in Little Havana

3. What games do you and your friends typically play?
I don't play games I typically work on developing. On my free time I enjoy slinging a bird or two at those nasty pigs(Referring to Angry Birds.

C. Jai-alai (a sport that originated in Spain)

1. What is jai-alai? To which sports is it similar?
Jai-alai is similar to lacrosse and its rule are common with racquetball

2. In what part of Spain did jai-alai originate? What did the players use for courts?
Jai-alai originated in Basque Country of Northern Spain. The players used a wall of a church to play the game.

3. Have you ever seen it played? Does this sport interest you? Why or why not?
No I have never heard of this sport , yet it is very interesting. I do not plan or playing this sport because it looks dangerous.

D. Freedom Tower

1. What is the Freedom Tower? Why can it be compared to Ellis Island?

    It was an exciting day because of the basketball game held last January 28 2012 in Mapua’s gymnasium. The game was in accordance with the commemoration of the founding anniversary of the institute. It was a fight between the present Mapua basketball players and the ex-cardinals. It was a game between yellow team and red team. The yellow team was composed of Madrid, Palomique, Espinosa, Cinco, Alcantara, and Sta. Maria. The red team who were the Mapua Cardinals include Jimenez, Ranises, Pascual, Mazo, Bernales, Guillermo, Co, and Del Rosario. It was an exciting game from the first to the last quarter of the game. Each team has the determination to win especially the Mapua Cardinals when they struggle to earn more points in the two last quarters of the game. The red team had a hard time in the first two quarters of the game but they instantly regain their lead as one of the team shot three-points. There was also an instance wherein the team amazingly got two consecutive three-points which enables them to a one point lead. The last minute of the game gave us the turning point of the story where the ex-cardinals (now struggling to get points), show an intense game play but failed to get any points. The Mapua Cardinals (red team) win by the score, 119-118.…

    The history of tennis is said to date back several of thousands of years. The game was created by European monks. It began as a game for “entertainment purposes during religious ceremonies. To begin the game of tennis one was too hit the ball with their hand, soon the leather glove came into existence. This now replaced ones hand with a more effective way to hit and serve the ball, and so the first “racquet” was created. With a new way to hit the tennis balls, then the ball went under reconstruction and redesign seeing as the first tennis ball was wooden. Soon the new ball was bouncier, it was made of leather filled with cellulose material. The game of tennis soon became very popular in Europe, then in france as it was adopted by the royal family. But in the beginning tennis was called “Jeu de paumme” – the game of the palm, and it was played by kings and noblemen. The French players began the game by yelling the word “tenez!” which meant “Play!” The name was then changed to royal or “real tennis.” In 1874 the first tennis courts came to be in the United States and Major Walter Wingfield had requested the patent rights for the equipment and rules of the game. The game spread like wild fire to different parts of the world like, Russia, Canada, India and China. Although Wingfield’s version of the tennis courts and rules of the game underwent a many changes until it gave way to the modern version of tennis we play today.…
