My dog Ellie is the most precious thing in the world to me! She has a salt, pepper, beard, and mustache. Ellie is a miniature schnauzer and has NO FUR. She has hair because I am allergic to fur. The reason why I got Ellie is because my dog Jack was leaving me forever because he kept on biting my mom. I really loved Jack, but I knew that he would do better at another home.
I got Ellie at 8:20 p.m. on December 20th, 2009. It was really cold and pitch black out. I had judged Ellie wrongly because I thought she would be very slow. The reason why is because when I first got her she would crawl and was scared half to death. But I was way off; she is a fun, happy, and CRAZY (just like me) dog!
Ellie’s favorite thing to do is chew and fight with her toy fox and red bull. I really don’t think anyone feels the same way as I do about Ellie. I feel that if I don’t have her my heart will seriously break in half. I also love her because she is the first dog I have ever seen with a mustache and beard. I tell her all my secrets, and she knows everything that goes on in my life. Even though my best friend Sarah knows a lot, Ellie knows much more.
The one thing I will never forget is when Ellie was a year old and she and I saw the band members from Adam Lambert’s concert. I didn’t want to embarrass myself, so I tried to act cool. Then Ellie’s leash got loose, and she made me chase her. She went up to the band like a spy because sometimes she gets shy, so she gets on her stomach and crawls. So she then rolled on her back so that they could rub her stomach, and everyone was laughing but Ellie I don’t think she knew what happened.
Another story is when I thought I could beat her at running because she is small. I learned never to judge someone by their size, shape or color because she beat me by a long shot. Also, when she was a pup, the first time she went to the groomers they saw only her face. They looked quickly and then looked away and marked her as a boy until they

When I was around four years old, we got our very first dog. I can remember driving to the breeders house. I was very excited to be getting a dog. When we got to their house, it was very small. My parents talked to the breeder for what felt like ages. We finally got to see all of the dogs that they had. The room that the puppies were in had a crib, and dog beds. I saw some very, very little puppys, I really wanted them all. The one that we chose, was hiding under the crib. We named him Poncho after the parent's name.…

Her childhood was filled with memories such as "[camping] out often". In page 9 and 10 Ellie compares her life to her friend Fiona's saying; "unlike us rurals, she [lives] in town and spends more time playing piano then drenching sheep or marking lambs". Molly is a three-year-old miniature Pomeranian that has been rescued from a puppy mill. She lived her whole life in a wire cage with others stacked on top of her. When she was rescued, she weighed four pounds and was covered in feces from the dogs that lived above her. Her hair was matted, her teeth were rotten, and her nails were over grown. She had never felt grass on her feet or experienced the feeling of running free. Her feet were split from walking on the wire floor, and the only human contact she ever experienced was bad, which made her scared to death of people. Molly now weighs six and a half pounds, has a beautiful coat, clean teeth, and trimmed nails. She comes when called instead of running from people and loves playing in the snow. She was one of the lucky ones, rescued in time. Thousands of dogs of all types and ages live in these horrible conditions their whole lives, being abused, neglected, and even killed in puppy mills each day.…

My first dog was a disaster. I’d gotten a Shih-Tzu as a seventh birthday present. She forewent obedience training and socialization. I didn’t walk her, didn’t clean up after her, and spoiled her rotten. Literally. It was unsurprising years later when she’d nipped at people unprovoked or would race around the house in a dizzying state, knocking vases off stands and knocking over unsteady chairs. Though on occasion, I found humor in her badness. The most hilarious incident being…

I am the proud owner of a little brown dog named Bruno. I rescued him from the pound while I was in high school. The pound was unsure exactly what kind of dog Bruno was, but stated he is part Dachshund. I mentioned earlier, I rescued Bruno, but in reality he rescued me. My senior year of high school was not the greatest time for me, but owning Bruno got me through it. At the time, I just broke up with my high school “sweetheart” so to my immature young mind, I thought the world was coming to an end and I would never find someone else. Whether it was taking Bruno for walks, or trying to teach him new tricks he kept my mind occupied. I was given the responsibility to take care of him. I made sure he had all of his shots and there was fresh food and water for him. Until he was house broken, I was responsible to clean up after him. By being responsible for another being, it keeps a person centered not always thinking about themselves and their needs.…

I sat in the car, my heart fluttering. After months of begging and convincing my mom finally agreed to adopt a dog. I stared out the window watching the leaves dance like butterflies through the cool winter breeze. I saw a little girl being tugged along the sidewalk by a Saint Bernard with fluffy hair like a mop, soaking up the rain from the night before. Soon I saw all that my dog could be, a tiny puppy, with fur as soft as a cloud in the sky, that would bark and jump at my feet when I entered the room, a dog who stood tall and would sprint through the park in search of a ball, or a small dog with long, silky fur who would curl up next to me as I closed my eyes.…
