Dr. Ruth Kennedy

At the end of my senior year of high school, I was very excited about going to college. To me, it meant new experiences, new people, and a new look on life. When I arrived at North Carolina Central University, I observed how things operated there. I planned how I wanted things to go as far as academically. It didn't go as planned but the course taken has shaped me into the person I am now. My first year, I took a lot of basic classes such as math and english composition, as well as some music classes. The first semester, I did very well. I got just about all A's. Then the spring term hit, and I started to feel very tired all the time. That effected my grades a lot. I tried to recover the next year but it didn't work that well. So I took some classes this past summer and I pulled my GPA up. Some of the teachers taken were, Mr. Hardy, Dr. Hulme, and Mr. Reid. I've learned some valuable lessons from each of my teachers. Dr. Hulme has taught me that some things in life you have to just go for it. Mr. Reid teaches the band to be humble, no matter how people try to bring the band down. Socially, I have grown but not to where I need to be. I still get nervous when I speak in front of people. I usually tend to stay to myself. But being a member of the Marching Sound Machine has introduced me to lots of new people older and younger. I've also built some friendships with the people who stayed in the same dorms as I. Extracurricular wise, I am in the marching band as well as the wind ensemble here at NCCU. I want to join the AudioNet crew to get some experience on the path that leads to my career goal. Also, my freshman year I joined Kappa Kappa Psi National Band Fraternity Inc. It has been a door opener for me. I now have a network of brothers who can help wherever I go. Overall, I would say that I have transformed into a humble logical man. My experiences here prepared me for life. I'm learning how to deal with the things that I can't change and stirve to change that which can. I've learned to strive for the highest in everything that I do, and I wouldn't change a single thing that I have been through.
