INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION
Meaning of communication
Communication means to provide required information, to the concerned persons. In business organizations, the up to date information must be available all the time regarding the various aspects of that organization. This information must be provided in time to time to the staff members, customers and other interested organizations.

The efficiency and success of an organization depends mainly on its communication system. Poor communication may result in loss of millions of shillings, loss of customers and it can spoil the good image of that organization.

Communication has been defined in different ways
1. It is the act of any natural or artificial means of conveying information or giving instruction.

2. It is the process of passing information and understanding from one person to another.

3. It is an exchange of ideas, facts, opinions or emotions by two or more persons.

4. It is the process on which information is transmitted between individuals and individuals/organizations, so that an understanding develops.

5. Administrative communication is a process which involves the transmission and accurate replication/copy of ideas ensured by feedback for the purpose of succeed actions which will accomplish organizational goals.

Aspects of communication

1. The source of communication i.e. the sender.

2. The contents of communication.

3. The process by which communication is produced i.e. typing.

4. The method by which the communication is transmitted e.g. letter writing, telephone etc.

5. The destination of the communication i.e. the recipient.

6. The understanding of the communication by the recipient.

Communication situation therefore exists when:
1. There is person (sender/transmitter) desirous of passing on information.

2. There is another person (receiver) whom the information is to be passed on.
