This course is an applied study of the process of consulting. It introduces the concept of consulting, its range and shape. It covers the qualities and roles of a consultant before dealing with the stages of a consulting process. Special emphasis is put on consulting for small businesses.

Counsulting can be practised in many different ways reflecting the diversity of the organisational contexts in which consultants operate, the different personalities of clients and the various conceptual approaches and interventions developed by the consultants. The course will provide you with a comprehensive and balanced picture of the consulting process, including different methods, styles, modes or techniques applied. You can then make your own choice, consistent with the technical, organisational and human contexts in which you apply your consulting skills.

There may be no universally accepted “best way of consulting” but some of those practising have found the following form of consulting useful.
a) Understand the process of consulting and develop effective consulting skills.
b) Apply small business problems analysis skills, techniques and procedures.
c) Develop personal consultancy qualities.

Methodology
Course objectives will be accomplished through study notes, text references, assignments and semester examinations.
