Baclayon
Baclayon is in the eastern part of Bohol. It is the first municipality to be established in Bohol by the Spaniards and formerly comprised its present territory and those belonging now to Corella, Sikatuna, Alburquerque and Balilihan. This municipality was originally called Bacayan because travelers used to detour (bacay) around a rocky cliff along the shore about half kilometer from the municipal building in order to avoid going over the top of the cliff. The town was founded in 1595 by two Jesuit priests, Fr. Juan de Torres and Fr. Gabriel Sanchez who also built a stone church which is now considered as the oldest stone church in the country. In 1879, Baclayon had a population of 11,142.
Pamilacan island is part of the municipality of Baclayon. In Pamilacan island you can visit the Spanish watchtower, fish sanctuary or just enjoy the underwater beauty by snorkeling, walking around the island or just relax at the white beach.

The community of Baclayon in Bohol marks as one of the most spectacular tourist places for avid visitors of historical relics. The town was the first municipal built by Spaniards which was later on preserved to maintain old structural churches and houses. In 1995, Baclayon’s most visited Catholic Church was recognized as National Historic Treasure for its Spanish inspired architectural form. Over 67 ancestral houses are lined up at Baclayon’s main road, featuring different Spanish colonial craftmanships. The Association of Baclayon Ancestral Homes organized by the house owners agreed to help out the town’s tourism industry by allowing tourist guests to stay in their homes.
Another amazing display you should watch out for in Baclayon is the entertaining dolphin show at Pamilacan Island. If you’re anywhere nearby beaches, a pick up can be arranged with fishermen crews who operate the dolphin watching. Be ready to take an early morning trip since these

Brú na Bóinne, which means the ‘palace’ or the ‘mansion’, refers to the area within the bend of the River Boyne which contains one of the world’s most important prehistoric landscapes. Believed to be built some 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic period, the Brú na Bóinne contains the largest assemblage of Megalithic art in Europe. It is believed that the initial construction of this site began around 3300 BC, and evidence suggests that during this time, the area had developed into an open farmland, which was scattered with domestic houses and buildings. With over 40 different passage tombs, the Brú na Bóinne reflects a society where rituals and ceremonies were of great importance. Not only were these tombs built with obvious care, but they also showed a great deal of sophistication, both in architecture, engineering, astronomy and artistic endeavor. This large kidney shaped mound, which covers an area of over one acre, not only shows the importance of honoring those who died, but also shows how important art and creation was to this society, as many of the curbstones are richly decorated with megalithic…

Each society was a small kingdom and the leader was called a cacique. The cacique’s function was to keep the welfare of the village by assigning daily work and making sure everyone got an equal share. The relatives of the caciques lived together in large houses in the center of the village. These houses reflect the warmth of the climate and simply used mud, straw and palm leaves. The houses did not contain much furniture. People slept in cotton hammocks or simply on mats of banana leaves. The general population lived in large circular buildings called bohios, constructed with wooden poles, woven straw, and palm leaves.…

With so many beautiful beaches competing for the attention of tourists, it would be easy to overlook Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. But what a mistake that would be! The path of history has touched Santo Domingo – it is here, in the 500-year-old architecture and the rich historical sites, that visitors come to appreciate the French, Haitian and Spanish influences on the island’s history. At the historical heart of Santo Domingo is the Ciudad Colonial (also called the Zona Colonial or the Colonial City), a priceless collection of 16th-century architecture restored and preserved in an expansive colonial neighborhood of squares, churches, historic buildings, important monuments, cobblestone laneways and atmospheric ruins. The neighborhood contains most of the historical sites in Santo Domingo, and a walking tour through its narrow streets and into its museums is a must for any visitor. Today, the Ciudad Colonial is much more than a collection of glorious architecture; it is a busy, historic neighborhood incorporating lively cafes, romantic courtyard restaurants and some of the best shopping in the city. The old town is still partially enclosed by remnants of the original city wall, that at one time was a first line of defense for its inhabitants. The grid pattern used by the city planners became the model for almost all town planners in the New World. At its centre is Parque Colón, a popular meeting place for both locals and tourists and one of the best people-watching spots in the city. In the centre of the park stands a large statue honoring the great explorer, Christopher Columbus. All of the historic sites in the Ciudad Colonial are within walking distance of the park. Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s population is 9,378,818, of which 4.7 million are women and 4.6 million are men, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census. Since the 2002…

The Tourism Structure Plan for Busuanga-Coron considered several Tourism Development Areas (TDAs), which is a cluster of Tourism Sites (TSs) with a common theme and geographical proximity. The first TDA, Coron Island, is known and treated as the “main attraction.” TDA-2, The Bintuan-Concepcion Area, is mostly known as a dive site due to its diverse marine ecosystem. TDA-3, The Calauit Island Area, makes for a great wildlife reserve hampered by limited accessibility and inadequate facilities. TDA-4, the Maricaban Bay area, is sustained by two premier resorts which are responsible for opening the northern part of Busuanga Island to tourism. Other TDAs were based on their readiness for development.…
