What are “make my day ” and "make my day better" laws? Why have they entered the national spotlight? How do these laws alter the elements of self defense, defense of property, defense of others, and the retreat doctrine (if at all)? What do you think of these laws? Provide your own factual scenarios and case law from the text to support your opinions.

They are bills used to justify someone to use deadly force in their home or business if a break in or some kind of deadly situation occurs. It is not really an official law but still trying to be passed as one. There are pros and cons about it and personally I think it goes half and half. When someone breaks into your home there is no kind of hesitation to protect either your family or yourself because everything is happening in the moment with no time to think about rational decisions. Especially if the intruder has a visible weapon. The bill will come in to play giving just cause for engaging in an altercation like a shooting. Which can be good for the home owner, some one should not be punished for engaging in self defense. On the other hand, there are some individuals that may take advantage of this law. Not everyone in the world is in their right mind and sometimes it takes a negative action to see that something was going on in their mind. Therefor one person can hurt, even shoot, another and give false statements of why they did it thinking they will be "off of the hook" automatically; taking advantage of the

Throughout many classic novels, storylines and articles, authors have used different “tools” of the English language, such as sarcasm for example, that play on the readers’ emotional or logical conclusions. Furthermore, by appealing to a reader’s emotional or logical assumptions, the author can influence their ideas and thoughts on a certain issue. In the article “If We’re Gonna Have Guns, Let’s Get ‘em Out in the Open-or Else!” authored my Mike Royko, is a prime example of how an author can influence a reader’s perception on a topic, while using sarcasm to put a twist within the article to keep the reader fully engaged. Royko uses sarcasm in a somewhat obvious way to express his view on gun control, indicating that it’s not an answer to have everyone get a gun in an attempt to wipe out crime or that everyone should reveal a gun so that anyone could stop or prevent crime; he uses examples that could personally connect to the reader, whether it be a scary situation at home or some “petty” crime they could be victims of.…

S.150, Feinstein’s Assault Weapons Ban was proposed in response to the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut where a shooter went on a rampage killing several students and teachers with a high powered, high capacity riffle. Lawmakers want to stop the manufacturing of high capacity weapons which will make the repeating of tragedies like the one seen in Newtown that much harder. Currently there is no federal law which restricts the round capacity of a weapon. However with gun laws so diverse around the nation it is a good possibility that states have their own round capacity laws for firearms. Several states has had and has Assault Weapons Bans in place, but each differing in what guns qualify as an assault rifle. There was also one a federal assault weapons ban which was enacted in 1994 and expired in 2004. The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban was criticized for being too easy to get around thus it was not reinstated (“Assault”). The main issue for this bill is the US Constitution’s Second Amendment, which gives the American public the right to bear arms. It is such a problem because Feinstein’s Assault Weapons…

To begin, the Bill of Rights promises Americans the ability to protect themselves. All Americans have the right to bear arms. Americans can buy and keep weaponry, although they are now required to also fill out paperwork. This Amendment allows Americans to protect themselves from intruders as well as defend their homes and families. Furthermore, the Bill of Rights also allows Americans to be secure in their possessions; the government cannot enter one’s home and take one’s possession without a warrant and reason. This right protects Americans in their homes, and safeguards their privacy while…

    Stand Your Ground Law

One law I will forever remember is the “Stand Your Ground” law. This law has been around for some time now but many people including myself have only recently learned of this law, because of a very emotional case in Florida involving ,George Zimmerman” murdering a 17 year old unarmed boy named “Trayvon Martin.” Stand your ground law was actually passed October 1, 2005. Ironically Florida was the first state to pass (Stand your ground law) and now Florida is the state that is making this law a nationwide topic. This law is one that people will abuse, we have already seen proof and I am sure that minorities are against this law more so than Whites are.…
